Air tubes in a large bin question

I am putting up a bin this summer and am going to have a stirator in the bin and would like to know if air tubes work well enough to aerate the corn that is along the outside of the bin, or should I use a bin liner?THANKS

If you can, route the tubes so that a fan can be ducted into them. I used perforated
drainage tile hooked to a small aerator, worked well. Ben

Air tubes are enough most of the time. You will get more condensation along the wall IF you dry wetter corn during cold weather.

How wet of corn will you putting in there? Will it be staying there, or be moved out?

Here in cold and wet NY, tubes work well. I've put corn wetter than the mid 20's in and dried it, but starting out drier than that works better. I've had little streaks of corn stick to the bin wall between the tubes, and mold there.

Even with the stirrer, if the corn is transferred out it's a lot better, because it's mixed up then.

I agree, moving out to another bin solves the problem. Nothing over 23%moisture will go in the bin. How high do the tubes have to go up in the bin?All of the bin tubes that I have seen only goabouthalf to maybe three-quarters of the way up!!Thanks

You only want them that high. If they are above the level of the grain, all the air will run out the tubes freely and NOT through the grain drying it. In bin drying is worthless if the bin gets too far down on the tubes.

This bin was put up in 1988. The tubes are plastic/PVC/whatever. They are pinched off at the top, so nothing gets in or out at the top. A special punch punches a triangular hole in the floor/flashing, and the tube is stuck down through the hole. The tubes run maybe 2/3 of the way up the wall.

Ok, thanks for your input. This particular bin dealer wants, insists, that I have a bin liner installed, not air tubes. I am not sold on that idea because to install bin liner, you have to raise the roof a bit which in my mind would allow snow to blow in over winter.I am thinking that air tubes would work as well, maybe better. Thanks for all of the response!

Never saw such a thing. Either air floors for drying in bins or a separate dryer used. The tubes along the walls would be in the way of the stirators.
