Hay rake-Kubota open center vs JD closed center

My buddy borrowed my JD 2755 to rake his hay. The rake has two wings with single action cylinders that go up and down just fine behind his Kubota, but will not fall down with the John Deere. He has to get off and pull them down. That is with the little plastic thingy in front of the remote lever flipped out of the way to let the lever go to float position. Is there more back resistance in the JD system than the Kubota system? The two cylinders have vents screwed in where the other hoses go. Can he install another hydraulic line to push the wings down? It seems like a bad design, but it is a good bramd of rake. Thanks.

Yes there is some return back pressure,,and running a second return line to the cylinders will take care of it..

My guess is poppet valves in scv aren't adjusted correctly. At least when scv is in float position I think that SA cylinder should operate(extend). Did your buddy attempt to lower rake with engine not running? I've operated single acting cylinders on my JD 4255 with similar type SCV with no problems

The reason for the slight back pressure is the return oil is routed into the charge oil flowing to the front pump, it is only about 150 psi but that is enough to hold the light baskets up a bit...

(quoted from post at 07:44:57 06/07/18) Where are the poppet valves, and does it
take anything special to adjust them?

Acquire a 5000# gauge then attach gauge to each breakaway coupler, activate control lever then return lever to neutral position watch gauges to see if it stays where it was when lever was released or rises/falls

Will scv still have back pressure when in float position?
