Follow Up-6.4 Powerstroke Oil Question

Thanks everyone!

Sure enough, it had the wrong filter cap. It was a tall NAPA cap, said "Do Not Reuse" on the cap. It had obviously been reused, probably more than once by the looks of the Channel Lock scars on the hex.

Got a new cap and filter from the dealer, compared the length, the Motorcraft combination was about 1/2" longer than what was in there.

The oil "felt" right, didn't appear to be thin automotive oil, and he didn't want to change it, so hopefully it will be OK.

I feel pretty good that this will fix it.

Thanks!

You can reuse the original Motor craft filter cup If your using Motorcraft filters. If you replace it with an after market many of them ,like WIX, come with there own filter cap. SO the average person just throws the original cap away. IF you keep using the after market filter your fine as they provide a new cap with each filter. When it gets fun is if you want to put the OEM/Motorcraft filter back on. The After market cap is taller than the OEM one. So the Motorcraft filter does not seat in the housing at all. So your not filtering the oil at all. The OEM Motorcraft cup is costs than the entire filter.

At my local parts store with my discounts, I can buy the Motorcraft oil and fuel filters cheaper than the WIX aftermarket ones.

As for my side, the nice part about a/m parts I get to sell many 3C3Z6766CA caps. I keep four
on the shelf.
