Farmall 560 deisel not lifting NH 847 Pics

I think the photos might explain a bit of the problem. the photos are linked at the end of the post... So, incase you didn't read yesterdays post about my problem, here is a rewritten version of what the problem was. so yesterday, me and my dad decided to check out our new round baler, so we can diagnose and fix some things if it is needed. we wanted to be one step ahead and be completely ready to bale when it is time to do so. but, being a farmer isn't as easy as plug in the hydraulic ports, hook up the pto and go... there always is a problem, at least at our farm. so, we hooked up the hydraulics, and the baler opened half way, we gave it full throttle, and it went up a few extra inches. so, we spent $150 in hydraulic fluid, to get the same result, lifting half way, and stopping. the hydraulics do whine a little as the baler stops going up... the original post is below...

Thanks again,

Could be your hydraulic connectors are worn and not opening all the way and letting fluid through. The more resistance that develops, the less it opens, can cause just what you have going on.

As Bret said, you probably have a bad coupling. It could be either male or female. Switch the hoses so lever moves opposite direction and see what happens. It might work. If so, switch the male couplings on the hoses or replace them.

From you description" "It goes up a few more inches"....tells me you have a low pressure problem.A worn pump will put out more pressure when ypu increase the RPM. A 560 doesn't have the best pressure when new. After over 50+ years, the system is worn, You are getting reduced pressure.I don't remember off the top of my head what the pressure should be.Someone here will chime in on that.A new hydraulic pump will be in order.run a pressure test to find out.Easy to do. Get a (minimum)2500 lb(I have a 5000lb gauge) gauge.Put a hydraulic coupler to it(a short length of 1/" hose is handy) and simply plug in to a remote and pull the handle.

All the new oil in the world and new filters wont 'fix' your problem.Run that pressure test before you waste,or spend any more money needlessly.

all the couplers that are on the tractor do not give any significantly higher results... the chances of them being all bad is pretty slim

the original owner replaced the old pump with another pump when he got it... god only knows when that was... there are little metal shavings in the hydraulic filter. could I have a bad pump... we've already put 250 more dollars into it already...

Lookyou can set herte on the computer all day long and listen to this guy and that guy on WHY it will not open the door on the baler . First thing i do when i get a call on a low performing hyd. system is I run tests on it with the proper test equipment . and that is called a FLOW RATER , it not only checks out put pressure it also checks the flow rate of the pump at specified pressure and oil temp. I can bypass all valving and only test the pump , then we can move on to pressure releif's and such. Then ya come down to the fact that you are tryen to run and older tractor that never did have that great of hyd system out put on something newer that requires more pressure due to smaller hyd cylinder Dia. . Firs off IF the pump is good then it's gong to put out pressure and volume up to design of the pump . That could be 12 GPM up to 17 GPM Pressure wise the pump is stupid and can build pressure till it blows it's self apart or twists or breaks the drive driving that pump. Next stop it the pressure regulator then the flow control . Now due to old age i gave up keeping every spec on every Farmall I H tractors hyd system in my head and i have to go to the BOOKS to be correct on spec.'s for the model . But let just say your system in good shape will do 1500 psi that may not get the job done , but say ya have a 706-806 with a still stock system that is 1750 psi and it will work the gate . same deal we have with the John Deere 7000 no till plater , my buddy who is almost die in the wool Deere but can't afford Deere tractors wanted to use the OLD 720 John Deere to plant with only to find out that that tractor with the old style hyd system and low pressure would not even lift and empty planter let lone when fully loaded . Even the 706 and my 806 will not just POP it up at the end of the row due to the fact that when that planter came out Deere had made there tractors with a higher pressure hyd system above even what our 706 and 806 had factory . 1750 for the Farmalls back then and Deeres 2250 or something like that . SOOOOOOO what you need to do is get someone that has a FLOW RATER and that can do the proper test of the system then you know where to go and what needs repaired or replaced and just stuff a gauge into and out let really tells ya nothing .

It sounds like you don't have enough hydraulic pressure. Check the baler manual, the dealer or the manufacture's website to find out what minimum hydraulic pressure is needed to run the baler. Then check the pressure available from your 55 to 60 year old 560. The 560 is a late 1950's design, it might not have been designed with much more than 1500 PSI hydraulics when brand new, maybe it can only make 1200 PSI or less now.

It's a long shot, but the manufacturer might offer larger diameter cylinders for low pressure hydraulic systems. It might cost less to fix or trade the tractor. Most tractors made in the last 40 - 50 years that are big enough to pull a round baler would have 2000 PSI hydraulics or more.

i know from experience that a 706 will not open a 847 all the way with the stock relief valve (1600 psi) but it will with a 2000 psi one. i'm not sure if you can increase the relief pressure on a 560.

probably the reason that it will lift it part way then stop is the gate gets harder to lift as it goes up. due to gravity and the angle of the push by the cylinders. I'd say you don't have enough pressure to lift it.

Refering to tractor vet/ I bought a new john deere 7000 4 row notill planter 30 years ago ,dry fert. and pulled with my 720 diesel/ It lifted it just fine. Covered a lot of acres with it. The set up guy delivered it and I told him that the 720 was 6 volt. He said the moniter was 12 volt,I was ready for him with a12volt battery to set in the tongue, charged it up at night, worked good.

i know for a fact any 560 or 660 running at 1000 rpm will open that gate. i bale with that same baler and open the gate at idle. so obviously his 560 has pump problems. it is not the 560 tractor hydraulics being under powered. it does not take much to open the gate. that tractor should be putting out 1500 psi if pump is good. very simple to get a guage tied into the pressure line with a T and try and lift that baler gate. also is the oil milky or clean?? just as i said check filters, oil level and if milky you have leaking pump suction, because you said it whines under load. i asked if oil was full and filters changed,, no answer. check pressure and report what you have.
