Pre-Memorial Day Observance

Put the flag out by the drive this morning and headed to the folks for brunch. Next stop was a very nice, BUT HOT, Memorial Day Service at a country cemetery where I grew up and where the folks will be buried. A retired Navy Chaplan presided and gave a great message.

No pictures but our church had a very nice service this am. Led by a retired Navy veteran. Detailed explanation about what the day means. Couple of nice video to go along with it. Couple crusty Viet Nam vets were wiping their eyes, which got more folks going. Sang national anthem and at the end a boy scout play taps. Very thankful for our service men and women. God bless America!

Several years ago, at the end of our church service the day before Memorial Day, the pastor asked all who had worn the uniform of the U.S. to exit the sanctuary first and form a receiving line in the Narthex. He then asked the rest of the congregation to feel free to offer their thanks.

It was incredible! Their were hugs, handshakes, and a few tears.

A little old gray haired lady cracked me up. She asked me what branch of service. When I replied, "Marine Corps", she took a couple of steps back, eyed me up and down, and said, "You look like a Marine". I have no idea who she was.

Unfortunately, that pastor left shortly thereafter, and I've never seen another do the same.
