Farm Fatality

I posted this on AgTalk earlier today, thought I'd put it here also.
Learned yesterday afternoon that a man a few miles from me died in a farm equipment related incident. I was told man was thought to be around 70 years of age . He was using a tractor , probably 40'ish hp and no doubt without cab, fell off the tractor and went under the 3 point mounted rotary cutter ( bush hogs around here ) that tractor was pulling . I and guy who told me , both believe man must have had heart attack, stroke or seizure to cause fall from tractor. It would have been merciful for him and his family for him to have been dead before he went off the tractor. Rescue people looked for and picked up body parts.

Northwestern North Carolina , in southwestern corner of Stokes County, 1/2 way between Winston-Salem and Mt. Airy.

Schtuff happens.

I'd rather die like that, doing what I LOVE than "LIVE" having my butt wiped by underpaid and uncaring strangers in a "living facility" for tens of thousands of dollars a year.

YAMMV! How about you, "Weldon"?????

Same thing happened up over the ridge here. Man got bounced off a 640 ford and went under the mower. It was attributed to rough terrain, very ugly scene.

That is a good way to describe location. I myself say 100 mile south of Toledo, Oh or 70 mile north of Dayton Oh and I think most will know something about those towns as Dayton is home to the Wright Bros and first airplane and Toledo is home to Jeep.

I've always said, when it comes my time to shove off I hope I just drop dead in my tracks somewhere.

Don't know what YAMMV means , but just waking up dead one morning would be OK with me !

Happened here last year. Science teacher mowing with a brush hog. They think he got off to open a gate and the tractor rolled. His wife found him, first responder's needed counseling. Nasty, Nasty, Nasty.

nearly 20 yrs ago now we had a young farmer feeding cows with a silage wagon. Done it a million times in his life on this farm. Chunk of silage got caught in beater bar at the top front of the wagon. He grabbed a shovel and climbed on the front of the wagon away from pto. SMART!!! then lost his balance as he was pushing against the lodged peice and fell into the wagons auger. Easier to clean up than a brush hog incident but definately not any easier on the stomach let me tell you
