Spread 60T of lime myself today took 3 hours and saved $10/T for my time, easiest money I ever saved. Definitely do it myself from now on.

I do my own too. Doesn't take too long to pay for the spreader. I only save $8 a ton though.

Same with repairs, spraying and fertilizing.

With tight margins farming, these sort of things make the difference in a profit or loss at the end of the year.

I used to tell people when I was in buisness "I save more money than I make" they would ask how is that possible? Tell them like it is I do the work myself If I mess up and have to pay someone to do it at least I tried and would have had to pay them to do it anyway.

I made about $150 an hour the other day. It took me about 20 minutes of walking but I found the planter part that JD wanted over $50 for. It isn't much but it made my day.

I save over a $1,000 each year spraying whitewash in my cow barn, instead of paying to have it done. Funny part is, just like the guys I know that quit smoking to save money, they never seem to have that extra money, anymore than I have the extra from doing my own whitewash.

Lol me either I'm actually going behind in the deal were putting on 50% more lime to get a 6.8 ph target to seed out alfalfa in a years time.

Hope you did a better job than those guys who run around the country side. Man they would spray EVERYTHING. Can remember spending sevearl days cleaning light bulbs, florescent tubes, window glass, push brooms and other tools, the electric clock up by the milk house, you get the idea. Whole place smelled like a dank cave for a couple of days. BUT wow was it ever white in that barn when everything dried out. Now if you could paint all of the rooms in your house that easy !!

It was a tow behind tandem axle red one we rented from our fertilizer supplier. I had the lime dumped off on the head land of the field and loaded it with a 160 hp loader tractor.

The lime was just dumped off at the end of the field. It's a fairly big spreader we rented and applied 1.5T/ac. It held around 8T/load and I spread close to 10 mph. Went pretty quick.

Saved my wife's best friend $976 on a brake job on her little Mercury in 20 minutes.
