Can Anyone help Me get this Tractor Started ? Have Posted Message with Details before and Will Be happy to do so again. THANKS in Advance for Your Interest and Time !

Things get buried in the pages here pretty quick - probably best to repost what the symptoms are, model and what you have tried.

Post on the FarmallIH forum, and repeat your list, include the circumstances around when it quit, or where it came from if it has never run when you started working on it. State what you have done and tested. Jim

As stated, I have a 1975 International Harvestor CUB (Yellow/White) Tractor. I have Installed (All NEW) a Battery, Spark Plugs and Wires, Coil and Wire, Distributor Cap, Rotor Button, and Petronix Electronic Ignition Kit. All GROUNDS have been cleaned. The motor "turns-over" just fine. NO SPARK. (I Tested ALL Spark Plugs with a Test Light and Gap checked and Correct.) Give Me some Advice and Direction. THANK YOU In Advance for Your Interest and Time !!

I have owned the Tractor for several years and have Mowed (w/Woods Belly Mower) many, many acres. Always ran fine. It was beginning to "bog-down" sometimes so I checked Points, Distributor Cap, Rotor Button, Spark Plugs, Wires, etc. ALL were in need of Replacing. I have Installed (All NEW) a Battery, Spark Plugs and Wires, Coil and Wire, Distributor Cap, Rotor Button, Petronix Electronic Ignition Kit, and Cleaned All Grounds. Also, NEW Switch. Motor "turns-over" just Fine. << NO SPARK >> Spark Plugs are Gapped Correctly. Checked ALL Spark Plugs with Test Light. (Test Light is GOOD) << NO SPARK >> Please ADVISE Me. THANKS for Your Interest and Time !!

You may have misplaced the points and condenser connections where they go through the side of the distributor housing (the terminal). To check this, remove the distributor cap and put a corner of a folded dollar bill between the points. Put a test light or volt meter on the terminal where it comes out of the side of the distributor. Make sure it is in neutral. Turn on the ignition. If voltage there, pull out the dollar. If the voltage goes away the circuit is correct. If there was no voltage shown with the dollar in the points, the connection is the grief. Or the condenser is shorted internally, or the connection of the points is touching the backing plate. Jim

I have Installed a PETRONIX ELECTRONIX IGNITION. (NO Points or Condensor remain.) The wires coming into the Distributor are NEW. Other Suggestions ??

What is the issue with a PETRONIX IGNITION ? Have used them before on Tractors and Lawn Mowers. No problems, but YOU may know something else. I'm ALL EARS. Thanks !

The only issues Im aware of is that they can be bad out of the box, and can "burn up" easy if not installed correctly. I have no experience with hem, other than taking them out and putting points back in.

Use the test light on the distributor side of the coil's small terminals. Turn on the ignition, and try to start it. If the light blinks the Pertronics unit is acting like a set of points (good) If no light or continuous light The Pertronics unit is not working. Jim

Well, nobody here can accuse Artillery of not replying to replies ..... but my ears are ringing a bit from his YELLING. Now and then is fine but yelling ALL THE TIME really isn't necessary.

Not ~~~yelling~~~, that's just the way I type. ! EXCLAMATION ! Points are My way of saying THANKS. I'm THANKFUL to get this much information. Probably Not as mechanical as YOU and most folks on here. Your Reply was appreciated.

Can't help with the cub but I'm a red leg also (assuming you are by title). B 3/82 105's Firebase Linda, VN 71/72. No cannon cocker, FDC 13E40.

To make any engine run you need somewhat timed spark-- good compression--- somewhere near correct fuel mixture. Those three or no go.

THANK YOU for Your Service.

Something I learned on Goldwing with points replaced by electronic pickup- the little black wire to - ground on battery is really important, no spark if it isn't attached. double read the installation instructions on the ignition kit and go over again, check wire colors, terminals. As other noted- electronic ignitions work very well compared to points- or they don't work at all, somethings can be defective, some things can burn out with misplaced wire touching. RN.
