Quicken 2002

If somebody can tell me in straight up plain English how to restore the data to Quicken 2002,could you send an email or something? Explain it here if you can,I don't care. When I open File Explorer in Windows 10,it's loaded with QDATA stuff. I spent over two hours yesterday downloading Windows updates and got the data back to the end of 2017. I started clicking on those things in the file folder last night and took it all the way back to ending in 2012,2014 and finally got it back to February 2016,but that's as new as I can get it. I can't even get it back to the end of 2017. I'd be ecstatic if I could even get it back that far.

It HAS to be Quicken 2002. I googled it and every screen shot and answer to questions pertains to Quicken 2017 and my screen and options are different. I would think I should be able to restore it from Quicken. If I have to restore it from Windows,I can't find the newest data there. Like I said,it takes me back to 12,14 and 16. I've messes with it so much now that it might be buried forever.

I tried restoring from a zip drive this morning and it wouldn't even do that. When I put the zip drive in,it says it's in drive G:. There's no option for drive G in Quicken, just A,C,D,E and Q.

Please,if you try to explain it,be specific and clear. I don't do this stuff for a living and I know absolutely NOTHING about computer terms and where any of this stuff is found. If it's not on the screen with an icon,I don't know where it is or where to find it. If I sound frustrated, you have no idea!

Thanks a bunch. I know I'll feel totally stupid when it comes back up,but that wouldn't be anything new.

Never mind. I got it back to the end of 2017 from the zip drive. I'll re enter everything for 2018 and call it good. It'll keep me busy and take my mind off the whole mess. I won't even try to restore it again. I did that and it took me back too far. I don't want to risk it again.

Thanks anyway.

When you have the quicken file open try saving that file to the zip drive, no doubt you have done this already. If you can try to create a file in the zip drive entitled 2017....put the back up file there for safekeeping.

I think this worked in 2002... Press Ctrl-B to open the backup dialog and save a backup every day, or whenever you make changes to your data. That has saved me more times than I can count. I made a directory just for Quicken backups and mirror that to Google Drive for safety since I know the hard drive will eventually crash. If Ctrl-B is not the right shortcut for version 2002 there will be some other way to fire the backup - and Quicken backup/restore works well. I was also able to move up to Q 2013 for free by being a bit creative with the free installation and versioning.

Randy I feel your pain on this. I use Quicken but a newer version than yours. So I have very little knowledge that would help.

Some things I do with my records.

First I always back them up after every single time I enter records. Thumb drives are cheap.

Second I very rarely do updates to my computer. I have found over the years that updates rarely help anything and many times cause trouble with the programs you use. The computer I am currently using has not been "updated" in at least six months.

The only thing I update is my anti-various program. That I usually allow to update when it wants to. I have my computer set so it always asked before doing any updates.

Also I did NOT allow Microsoft to install/update to Windows 10 on this computer. Yes I do not like the Windows 8.1 but I hate the privacy issues with Windows 10.

All done and backed up to zip drive. It's a great way to keep records, but makes you want to put a gun in your mouth when something goes wrong with it. I don't even know how I lost it. It was all there Monday and all gone yesterday.

Have no idea about Quicken, because I've always used Quick Books for my business. But I got in a jam with QB, and ended up calling the help desk at Intuit. They were very helpful, and it may be worth a try before you resort to re-entering everything. Only problem with that is they may not support a 16 year old version, but they'll tell you if that's the case before they put you on the clock.

Same reason that my newest tractor is a 1982 I guess. If it works, use it. lol

I just have to stop procrastinating and saying I'll back it up next time, and actually back it up more than twice a year.

Are you actually doing your backup onto an external iomega (or equal) zip drive ?

Or are you calling a memory stick in a USB port a "zip drive"?

(quoted from post at 13:44:55 05/20/18) Memory stick I guess. I said I wasn't good with computer terms.

Whew!
I was thinking you were asking for trouble with an old zip drive as your backup storage device.

Now do another memory stick and put the same stuff on it also.

Reason: I have a memory stick that bent the metal part towards the plastic part ever so slightly when it was dropped.
Now when plugged in, it just heats up too hot to handle and the computer will not read the drive at all.

(quoted from post at 13:38:24 05/20/18) Why can you not install 2018 and restore the 2002 file?

Because they won't "talk to each other". I ran Quicken 2008 for a long time. Got a new computer and couldn't find the old disc. Got Quicken 2016 off Ebay ($5) and loaded it. Downloaded the 2008 Quicken info onto a thumb drive and tried to download it to the 2016 version. Screen came up saying the 2016 system didn't support the old version.

Certainly Quicken has a file conversion fix that is free.
Would be major stupid not to if you want to retain any customers.

I couldn't find a way to do it and I thought the same thing as what you said. Maybe they do and I'm not savvy enough to figure it out, but IME tech co's do this to get you to buy the new system, even when the old one works great.
