Well I needed an Oliver hauled from Mass to VA put some ads around and also a listing or 'auction' on U Ship, went with one of the U Ship guys seems OK.Have to pay upfront to U Ship tractor is supposed to be here middle of next week so I'll see.Anyone used them before?

TF Used them more than once..in fact several times. They are really just a broker and you will deal with an individual trucker or trucking company that took the load at a quoted price. Only bad I ever had was had a guy pick up a seeder in Ohio and brought it in. He said he would do it for a good price but I had to be willing to unload when he got here. Came in about 9.30 at night. Gave me this sad story that he was broke needed fuel money , anyway I paid the $ 250.00 in cash. I did get him to sign a bill of lading marked paid . Six weeks latter I get a bill from a trucking company for the haul. Took several phone calls but finally convinced them I was not paying again. So just watch when you pay the money and get receipts.

I Have used a similar service. BUT, I would only give them 50% up front, balance on delivery - got burned ONCE !

Had a backhoe delivered to NW Oregon from Kamloops, BC. The guys trailer wasn't big enough to chain down the hoe so he asked if he could remove it and deliver the tractor/loader then go back and get the hoe. He made the two trips and had helpful people at both ends with excavators to help hook it back up. He even bought 5 gallons of hyd oil and re-filled everything. He could not have made any money on that job. He pulled it with a Chevy 6.2 diesel pick-up with no turbo so it was a slow trip as well.

The way U Ship worked the paying was I gave U Ship a Credit Card upfront and they hold the payment to the shipper until I give the shipper a release payment number after the delivery is made.I guess that should be OK as with the CC if I don't get the tractor hauled I can get the CC company to cancel the transaction. Also have communicated with the hauler and he seems
legit to me.Also have a good relationship with the seller so he'll look out for anything odd. There was another bid slightly cheaper but things just didn't seem quite right nothing I could really put my finger on,but I've learned when I get that feeling pay attention(LOL).

Sounds like you will be OK.. I think the older we get the more we are inclined to go with those GUT FEELINGS,, like when something just does not seem just right...

I have used them for both LTL shipments on common carriers and with individual haulers and had nothing but great service. Have even crossed the Canadian border both ways and everything went smooth. Prices through U ship with common carriers will typically be 25-30% of what same carrier will quote if you contact them directly. Individual haulers will be a bit more but you have Uship acting as middleman and there are some guaranties that go with that.

I contacted them for a friend . One bid was a scammer. The guy who won the bid came with a trailer and loaded a 24,000 lb container . His trailer was too small and he blew tires all the way to Florida. My friend had to hire a crane to offload the container. But it worked.
