A little help please- OT, 05 Escape

I'm having problems with the floor mounted shifter on an 05 Ford Escape with auto tranny. There's a mechanism Ford installs that allows you to get the tranny out of park by popping a cover next to the shifter and activating a release with a screwdriver. Well, my problem is the PO apparently screwed it up or broke it somehow and now it drops and block the shifter from going out of drive or neutral. Is anyone aware of an exploded view diagram of the shifter mechanism on line? I can't find anything that will blow up big enough to be able to see the parts so I can figure out what to replace. My mechanic fixed it a couple days back and told me I needed to replace some parts, but it's dropped again. He doesn't have an exploded view either.

Ideas or links? Oh, and no, it's NOT an electrical issue related tt he brake switch.

I'd just remove that little lock-dog and never have to worry about it again. I did that a long time ago in my 2001 Chevy Tracker and may do
the same with my 2009 Escape. That is one of many "safety" features I have no use for.

That's my intention, I just don't know what it is I'm looking for. Since I'll be in my back trying to get it, I'd like to have an idea before I start.

ETA- Is this something I can get to from the top if I remove the console cover?

My son in law is a manager at the local Ford dealership. He said he could get me a exploded view tomorrow. When he does I will pass it along to you.

Your welcome. My son in law is pretty sure the lock out is part of the shifter and may not be serviceable, at least as far as dealer labor rate versus just replacing the shifter.

Fixed it! Turns out there was a tiny rectangular piece of plastic in the "trigger" on the shifter. I had the whole mess out and torn apart before I finally found it. It was blocking the "trigger" from going all the way back and releasing the shifter lock. Darn things about 1/8" square. Drove me nuts!
