We just bought a restored John Deere 3020 and upon getting it home, I noticed that the front axle seems to be flipped around in the one on the left in the photo (unrestored). Was this a factory option? Was it taken off and put back on wrong at some point?

I believe they can be installed either way, long or short wheelbase, for what ever reason it may have been desirable to set it one way or the other.

They could be either way but most often the short position was on utility and wheatland or standard tractors. You will need some different tie rod parts and the center steering arm as well as change the steering lines up front. Tom
