I drove by Aldi's grocery store this morning
and thought I'd stop in for a few items.
They had this stuff there.
I thought to myself "What could be worse
than Spam? Why fake Spam of course."
Actually I like Spam once in a while.
So I bought a couple of cans of this.
I sliced it thin and put it on a flour
tortilla along with some cabbage and swiss
cheese and made a roll up for lunch.
Fake spam.
Not bad at all.

I was an adult before I ever ate any spam. When my dad got out of the army he told my mother he never wanted any spam for as long as he lived so we never had it. After trying it I can see how my dad got burnt out on it.

Remember on Mash when the Greek army guys were going to roast a baby lamb?Radar shipped it home to Iowa and Hawkeye molded a spam lamb and cooked it.

Imagine that,,,Ultradog will buy ,,and eat,,two cans of fake spam,,,,but refuses to eat fresh picked and cooked squash from the garden??/?????? //// (lol)

SPAM, (the meat) is highly prized in a lot of Asian countries and also Hawaii, mostly because of the perception of the product. It's amazing what a good advertising campaign will do. Hawaii also had a huge increase in SPAM theft within the last few years, reportedly because they raised the dollar amount on a felony theft conviction. They now feel that they can steal SPAM more because the theft of a bunch of SPAM is not a felony.

I"ve never understood the dislike for Spam. Maybe some people need to understand the opposite- when you don"t have meat. Oh, I like squash as well.....Growing up poor, I always appreciated what the folks could provide for us. Spam, and other lunchmeat, was a treat for us.

Dunno if it still holds true today, but 18 years ago when hoof and mouth was found in Great Britain, my boss's wife wrote to Aldi and asked if they sourced any meat from Europe in their canned meat. The response she got was to ask Hormel because they buy the stuff from them. I'm sure Hormel has different levels of QC, depending if they're sticking their own label on the can or someone else's, but you may have been eating the real deal.

And you can have my portion as well.

I've always liked Spam- often have a fried slice with my egg for breakfast. I was surprised to see how much shelf space it gets in Hawaiian supermarkets, its really popular there. We also like macadamia nuts, which also come in many flavors there- including Spam flavored, believe it or not.

I can eat it in a sandwich, if sliced very thin -
and it either has to be very cold or else fried crispy...
AS LONG AS I don't contemplate what it actually is. LOL!
