Hesston 1120 sickle bar alignment

The sickle bar is sitting too far back on my Hesston 1120. The back of the bar is rubbing on the guards with some pressure. All of the shims on the top pivot are already on the front. Since the sway bar essentially pivots front to back on the crank assembly, all adjustment is out from that. Is there some shims between the crank assembly and the swaybar assembly that I am not seeing? I will attach a photo of the manual in a reply post.

Thanks!

I would agree - verify the guards are correct.

What changed from before to now, what parts changed and was it OK before?

1120 is a fine machine IMHO.

I put new guards from Shoup on. The old ones were the same, the old bar was good except for by the knife head that was severely worn from misalignment.

I don't have my 1120 manual in front of me, but they spell out pretty precisely what parts are supposed to go on, in what order, to make the knife run straight. Is it possible you put something on backwards or in the wrong order? Were it me, that's the first thing I'd check. The sway bar doesn't control where the knife rides, it's supposed to line up with where the knife rides, if that makes any sense.

Yes, everything I put on was in the the right order. Not sure what the previous owner did though. It does look like the spacer that should be behind the crank assembly may be on the front. It looks like there may be two washers on the front. I will try to get into it tonight.

Should the big bearing on the crank assembly have the snap ring towards the front or rear? It was on there with the snap ring to the front but if I were to reverse it I think it would move the swaybar forwards. The parts diagram shows the snap ring to the front, but the manual looks like the bolt and washer is flush on the front which would imply the bearing should be the other way.

You're talking, what? 1/8" maybe? If the whole knife assy is rubbing to the rear of the guards, I think theres more than just a snap ring installed wrong.

actually the sleeve that the bearing has for the I.D. sticks out the front and is flush on the rear.

Theres a bushing that sits behind that bearing, is it there? Beyond that, I'd check the whole sway bar unit for play, maybe there's a bushing or bearing worn. Is the knife head pitman in good shape? Is there any sign the machine has been crashed into something at some point? If the upper and lower shims for the knife bar are there, I can't see why it would run against the back real hard unless something is worn, bent or broken.
