White 2-105 steering

My tractor is constantly drifting to the left. Driving straight requires me to always be turning to the right. I'm not sure which to rebuild first, the steering cylinder or the steering valve? Any advice is appreciated.
 
The cylinder is a lot easier to deal with than the steering valve.

It's a messy job to check the piston seal for leakage, requires disconnecting a line, blocking the cylinder in position, applying pressure to the cylinder and watching for the seal to bypass.

Assuming this is an orbital steering valve, those are difficult to repair, and not much can be done once in there. Usually they are replaced, and are expensive. If you do take it apart, be extremely careful to note where everything goes. They can go back together many ways, but will only work when right. BTDT the hard way!
 
Your "power steering valve" is an "orbitrol" which has no internal seals to go bad or to replace to correct "drifting". Seals only contain potential external leaks.

If it's actually failed causing the steering to "drift", the "fix" is a new one in the $800 to $1000 range.

Mite want to thoroughly examine the steering cylinder(s) for leaks and reseal as needed before resorting to the 1K$ "steering valve" fix, IMHO.
 
My Ford was doing the same thing. I resealed the cylinders and that fixed it. As Steve said, take one hose off and turn the steering wheel and see if it bypasses oil.
 
When I asked about the same thing on an Oliver 1600 down on the Oliver forum,the consensus seemed to be that it was the steering hyrda motor.
 
trucktractor, I drove the 2-105 home from the auction a few years ago and felt like a boat captain. The neighbor only paid $4500 for it and he did put a rebuilt pump on it. My White American 60 wanders a little too when traveling at high speed. Keeps you on your toes when your around 25 miles an hour. lol

It will on that White anyway. There's a hose that goes in to the cap in the center of the cylinder to let off oil that leaks by. I wish I could tell you what the normal leak off on that line is,but I can't. I'd say if it blows off out of there under pressure when you turn the wheel,that would be a tip that an o-ring in the cylinder is bad.
