ih 3388 pto operation

Anybody familiar with how a ih 3388 (ant eater) tractor pto works. Guy bought one at auction today and got it home says pto does not work. Says there is a lever in the cab and dash button. Does the lever select between 540 and 1000 then hit the button or how do you get the pto to work. Should be about the same as a 1466 or what ever tractor those thing were made from.

The lever turns it on and off the button on the dash is for the readout to tell you rpm of each shaft based on the engine rpm

Should be the same as any IH 86 series and older pto. the lever in the cab turns the pto on and off both pto shafts turn at the same time. most of the time a no run problem is a broke pin in the pto valve. follow the rod from the lever in back of the cab down to the pto unit. there is a plug under the rod on the bottom of the pto unit. use a socket to take it out. then unscrew the block on top of the valve and push everything out the bottom. there is a pin a little smaller than a pencil lead that breaks and holds the two pieces of the valve together put in a new pin and put everything back in then have someone come and set the pressure. I drove a 3588 for an uncle 30 years ago but i did mostly tillage work. i dont remember a dash button.

Your local dealer will sell you the fitting for the pressure setting. We use a hose to the fitting so we can read it easier.

We have all that here I am pretty sure just was not at the old tractor and was not sure about the lever/and button but now I think I remember how they work.
