Radial Air Pressure

On my JD 4440, I have BKT Agrimax 460/85R38 rear tires, how much air pressure can I put in these tires? Was asking because I have a set of matching bias 18.4/38 tires for outside duals and they are about an inch taller than the inside radial tires. I have the bias tire pressure set soft at 5 psi. Thanks.

My JD 4255 operators manual states for 18.4x38 radials 16 psi with little or no added weight & 20 psi with maximum ballast or heavy mounted equipment. For dual rear tires pressure may be reduced to 12 psi.

I've read where operators have gone as low as 8 psi on rear radial tires with no real problems

I would put the larger tire on the inside for less strain on the axle. The larger tire will do most of the pulling.

I?ve ran radials as high as 25 and as low as 6 . You should be able to get them about the same height I would think if you adjust the inside tire psi

in this situation you are best to keep the out side at 5-6 lbs. have the insides at 14-16 ibs. dont think you will benefit going to 20 lbs.

The two tractors I have both have radial tires with radial duals. My suggestion won't apply with respect to having duals on the tractor, but will with the singles. I have taken the time to weigh the tractors with the total weight, the weight on the front axle, and the weight at the rear axle. The tire catalog I obtained for the manufacturer of these tires has a loaded weight rating per tire with singles and with duals, with specific air pressures in the tires. I tend to follow along with these ratings, or slightly higher based upon the load on the hitch on the tractor, too. I cannot recall, but my 225 horsepower tractor with mfwd has a full set of suitcase weights on the front and a 1350 pound wheel weight in each inner rear wheel. My fronts are pumped up to around 26 or 28 psi, and my rears are around 10 or 11 psi with duals. My 2wd tractor, rated at 180 horsepower has 14 front suitcase weights and a 450 pound wheel weight in each rear inner wheel. This tractor doesn't perform high draft work in the field, so the tires are pumped up a bit higher in psi versus the tillage tractor. I think with duals, these are pumped up to 14 psi, and with singles might be around 20 or 22 psi.
