Dust respirator

For those of us out there with out the luxury of an enclosed cab, what form of protection do you use, for dust? I have been using the 3M N95 dust respirator. It seams to work, and I don't have a large thing hanging from my face for hours. I am sure something may be better, but at 75 damage from dust, if any, has probably already been done. I will probably continue using the 3M respirator. So what do you use? Stan

you mean just field dust?? been working without cab pretty much all my life and yet to use a respirator. only wear a dust mask when in grainery shoveling with bin sweep. healthy for you to eat a little dirt. its the field crop spraying i get nervous about with no cab.

Probably getting into the area of having a big blob on your face but something like a 3M 6100 will stop nearly 100 percent of foreign material from getting in your lungs. That is if it fits right and is worn properly. Can be worn for painting with the proper cartridges. Those N95s are better then nothing but I would bet you are still breathing in 20 percent of what you would without one. I doubt you would find a doctor that would tell you it is good for you to breath any type of particulates. Lord knows when I was a kid on the farm I ate my share. No cab tractors...well except for a 656 with no A/C when it got hot out the doors were folded forward and the windows were open. At least the air was filtered coming through the roof blower. Lol. Then worse yet was the time spent on the Hesston 420 swather. Anything but heavy green alfalfa would usually produce a fine dust cloud to set in.

It would be more comfortable, especially in hot weather to wear one with an exhaust valve. Myself since I paint a lot I wear a paint respirator for everything.

I wear this respirator. They work and aren't big and bulky. I swear by them. But any thing is better than nothing. They have the exhale valve in them too.
Breathe here

If it was up to OSHA all our tractors would be fitted with an integrated dust collection system with a hepa filter and have a spray bar to mist water. I understand the concern for silicosis, but their new silica standard is over the top. We're battling it in the construction field, let's hope they don't find the corn field.
