Yes the wind has been Bad the last few days, I pray for those folks pout in the west part of the state.

Looks as if the wind is blowing away from the pile. Would some fast front loader action save most of the pile? Cut a fire brake through the pile.

Got same conditions in West Tx. Have several big fires going. West wind then shift to North later this eve with a cold front.

There's three rows hundred feet apart 40-50 feet tall what your saying would work if the wind would lay down but right now if they tried that everything around you would explode into flames

Good luck putting that out. Ive experienced a few cotton fires during picking. You carnt see the flame it just turns black. When it gets hot enough the oil in the cotton seed will explode. This pile haveing been already ginned and only the seed and no cotton im not sure how it would go but when you wet cotton down with water it will only infiltrate it about 3 inchs and it keeps burning and smoldering underneith. Very flameable and hard to put out

I had an uncle that worked in a cotton gin back in 40's and early 50's. He told me that when they had a bale that was trying to burn they put it out with kerosene. He said water wouldn't penetrate the bale but the kerosene would soak in and reach the hot spot. I reckon it being packed it couldn't get enough air to flame up.I never heard of that before or after he told me so I don't know if it really worked.
