4630 Syncro Rear End?

First time post.
My dad has a JD 4630. My family used to farm some, but basically the bank took the farm. So my dad still has a few random pieces of equipment and hobby farms 20 acres now and holds an 8-5 job. He has this 4630 syncro tractor from back when they used to farm. About 10 years ago something broke in the rear end. My dad was a mechanic for Case IH at one point so he knows what he is doing. He split the rear axle from the main tractor to inspect. It has sat this way for TEN YEARS. My dad does not have the money to fix this thing. It just sits in the shed. I asked him what is wrong and he said he needs a used rear end from a syncro style transmission.
Where could I find of of these for my dad? Are these hard to find knowing there are three transmission types? (Syncro, Powershit and Quad Range).
I want to help my dad out. Any thoughts?
Is it worth more fixed, or parted out?

I'm trying to figure that out via texting with him.
He said the fact he has a syncro makes a difference, so I'm not sure how far in that makes a difference.

FYI, we are in Illinois.

More than likely the spider gears failed and he needs a carrier..it can also wipe out the transmission pump and bend the PTO shaft as it all unfolded...some pictures would be good...there are a lot of parts out there for them...

I can’t get into the JD parts book at the moment . I wonder what other JD’s share the same differential components as the 4630?

Axles arr good ..it spun the bearing race on the front of transmission houseing ....n it messed up the casting

They came out with a 2 gear,,then upgraded to a 4 gear,, then decided the 3 gear set up was best,,and it is better..

Okay then you have a much different issue than I was looking at,,you may be into more than it's worth with that kind of problem,,swapping out a trans case is a big deal for a novice...and yes there are some out there in the salvage yards..

Wonder if a machine shop with a large enough mill could true up the hole and make a sleeve for the bearing at a cost that would make it worthwhile?

Would save a lot of shimming a bunch of bearings for correct preload and play.

My dad is not a novice, he used to work for case ih repair shop, he has a degree in diesel mechanics.
He split the tractor and diagnosed.
He just does not have the funds to pay for new.
He does not know how to hunt on the internet.
Hee didn't ask me to hunt for him, but I have seeing years go by and nothing happen to it.
I'm sure he could use the money from selling.

Interesting idea, I'd be curious to know if anyone has tried this.

How many hours are on this tractor? It?s beginning to look like salvaging out what you have may
be to best. There are engine cylinder boring bars that a savvy machinist can set up to sleeve the
bearing mounting location but this will not be a cheap repair. If your dad was a mechanic in the
area maybe he could talk to some of the local tractor dealers and see if they know anyone who
could do this then find out what they would charge. One other thing it sounds like you are going to
keep the tractor to use if you get it running. Most 20 acre hobby farms can?t utilize a 160hp tractor
and unfortunately the fact that it has a synchro trans that probably knocks $1-3000 off the
value compared to a PS or Quad. I?ll post a contact of a Deere salvage yard in KS near my
hometown, he is also on Facebook. Since your in IL I doubt he?ll be interested in your tractor
especially since it is split and not real easy to load on a truck. Good Luck sure is great you want to
help out your Dad.

There's not but 4 tractor models that utilized trans case AR77463

So short of just "googling" AR77463 to find things like this, any recommendations?

Ya, he hasn't used the tractor in over 10 years. He has a 1066 IH he does most of his work with.
I am just trying to help my dad out. I keep asking him what he wants to do with it, but I know he just can not afford to fix, but I can. He feels weird with me offering to help him out, but seeing it sit seems like a huge waste of money and space.

Update, 4 years later. My father passed away and the tractor has still not been touched. Sad day for the 4630.
