Last year I was cutting grass on April 1st.

Our latest snow pretty much gone. But soil is still frozen below the surface. Have some risking that needs to be done real soon. Not sure I can even get the disk to penetrate. Few years back we were plowing on March 19th, and having troubles with tractors overheating!

I can't speak for everyone else in NW Pa. Getting pretty tire of this Cold, tired of burning wood.
I marked on the calendar last fall, started the wood furnace 10/15/17 & it has NOT been out since.
Burnt more wood this year than ever be for. Granted I burned a lot of Maple because that is what fell
on the farm, not my choice wood..

The USDA crop weather report for Monday showed a soil temp of 31 for Northern Indiana and it was in the 20's and teens for MI. I am also getting tired of keeping a fire going in the boiler.

Here in SJ it is 48? at 11:30am. 5his Saturday it is supposed to get up to 78?. Believe when I see it.

A dusting this morning. Saturday I pushed back a snow pile to get my trailer out.

If you were cutting grass on April 1 last year you were cutting what was left over from fall. The pastures didn't even green up enough to turn the cows out until the 21st of May or so.

Here are photos at our place in northern Michigan from April 11, 2017. One year ago and things look exactly the same today.

Mariners game with Twins at Minneapolis was cancelled on Sunday on account of snow. Game the day before was the coldest Major league game on record- 27 degrees at first pitch.

May 1, 2013 I needed to wind up the day in Scottsbluff, NE. I worked in Grand Island and Kearney in a cold rain in the morning and left Kearney for Scottsbluff right after lunch. I ran into a snow storm by North Platte and drove in snow till about 20 miles south of Scottsbluff.

And that was the first of May. Just sayin'.

2013 was a bad year here, shortest growing season I know of. How we got a crop at all I don't know, my part of southern Minnesota.

And yes, this is looking like the same start. I think maybe the frost was even deeper this year, making it harder to warn up and dry out the ground.

Tomorrow is the insurance plant day for corn in my neighborhood. Wonder if anyone will go? :)

Yesterday afternoon I saw a well loaded manure spreader driving on the fields spreading manure, not breaking through at all.

I thought it was April Showers did not sleep with the president. At least that was what Bart Simpson was writing on the blackboard over and over again.

The lawn in Sarnia was green last weekend and the flower beds were 3-4 inches high. Will have to fire up the mower in less than a week.

When is the opener this year, May 13th? Which lake is hosting the governor this year? In past decades the governor's fishing trip had to be moved to a more southern lake because the host lake was still iced in.

Goose,
By May 2 of 2013, that snow storm had moved into MN... and we got about 14 inches of white crud.

Our son was a senior that year, and much to his dismay, the high school had to cancel their senior class trip due to that storm. (The trip did get rescheduled - so the kids were happy for that.)

My youngest dau and my better half flew to CA for a college visit to Stanford, about May 12 in 2002- with about 10 inch snowfall the day before. We were out of the field for 2 weeks.
