I am restoring a 1953 massey harris mustang with a continental f140 engine however the engine is completely froze I was going to rebuild it. It might be cheaper to find a used engine does anyone know were I might be able to find one.

That engine doesn't have sleeves so will probably have to be bored out. That engine was in a lot of welders, air compressors and other motor driven tools.

Lincoln welders , combines , and forklifts were all
popular uses for that engine. I have it's
forerunner , an F124 in a Case VC . The parts are
pretty much available , sure you don't want to try
rebuilding it ? Get it apart and see what all is
wrong with it ...

I pulled a small engine like that out of a machine I have and it is just laying around. Ran when pulled but have not messed with it for a long time. Big thing is where your at since they are not light

We had some old Massey Harris combines at Clemson U that used that engine. Might find one in a farm equipment scrap yard.

I have it all apart it took on a lot of water it had a flapper on the exaust but it sat for a long time so water just worked it's way in. two cylinders have some rust the pistons were froze along with the lifters I would need a full rebuild. To top it off someone had it apart they snapped the bolt that holds the gear on the cam so it was welded that is getting drilled out.

That's what I'm told guess I have some searching to do. I promised my kids we would get her going so I'm commited now

I'm kind of new to this I just don't know if it's cheaper to find a new eng. or put a rebuild kit in it

yea that's a bit far but thank you for the reply. If anything I'll rebuild it just looking for the best option

I know this is an old post but i am also working. On an F140. I need a starter ring gear. All i can find have 103 teeth. Mine only has96 teeth and my starter is a prestolite with 9 tooth bendix gear. Most starters i xan find have a 10 tooth bendix. Any one out there able to help. With info or a parts source?
