I used to work for them and recently drove by there on weekend and it looked like the place is all closed up. Nothing around and no snow had been cleaned away, etc. Anyone know the status?

No. They are (were?) a large REA (Rural Electrification Association) cooperative serving parts of North Dakota and Minnesota. They built a large power generating plant near Center, ND in the mid 1960s (burning lignite coal for steam) and transported the power via a power line from that plant all the way to the Fargo, ND substation.

Thanks to everyone's answers. If I would think a bit, I probably could have found this info myself !!! But it's always nice to hear from the YT community. Thank you all again.

PS I worked for Minnkota in 1968 and 1969 right out of engineering college at NDSU. Hard to believe it's that long ago.

Ron, you were about 85 miles from the farm. Everything still pretty froze up here. 10 above!
