I need a new pair of shoes.im a diabetic, and my insurance will pay for custom shoes and insoles.all of my shoes end up wearing the outside of the sole more than the inside,by quite a bit.has anyone ever tried having the soles built up more on the outside, say a 1/4 inch to start with,so after a few months they'll even out flat??

I would go to a good shoe store that deals with special problems, you may need inserts to make you walk better. I did that several years ago and it has helped me a bunch, also dont wear out shoes so quickly

I'm the same way. Insoles will do more good. For whatever reason your body is "trained" to walk that way. You need to untrain your body.

It is called pronation(sp), and you need to see a podiatrist so he can fit you with the correct shoes to support your ankle and correct the problem.

Yes I've never had em go a 1/4 inch though . my feet set at about a 45 degrees angle to my legs a pair of boots will last me 6 months if I'm lucky cutom built whites or 150$ made in China doesn't make any difference

Ask around there is someone in your area trained to fit diabetic shoes.
Medicare pays for diabetic shoes and requires they be fitted by someone trained.

I'm a type two diabetic. The most comfortable shoes I have ever worn are SAS brand. SanAntonio shoes. Made in Texas. They feel like they are broke in when you put them on new. They are pricey but they last a long time and I feel my feet are worth it!

I think the comments made by OH BOY and JDSeller are out of line and rather crude. The man had a legitimate question about a medical issue. I really think he deserves an apology.

Do you not visit with old friends at a coffee shop and take a ribbing now and then?

I also where the outside of my shoes more than the inside. Many years ago, I was told the way to correct it was an insert inside the shoe to change the angle of your foot. I just lived with the shoes wearing out uneven, but I believe building up the outside of the shoe would just cause more problems for your feet and legs as your body already thinks it is too high to begin with.

When I was in the military, many soldiers would have small steel taps put on the bottom of their boots to stop the premature wear. If you have the sole made thicker, it will turn your ankle. That might cause other problems. The metal taps were set into the rubber, so there was no change in position. You could hear them coming down the hall since the taps would click as they walked.

I have resorted to getting custom orthotic inserts from a lab that makes prosthetic limbs among other things. I pay $450 per pair but they last two years or so. Orthotics are yur only hope of fixing the problem and getting your feet healthy again. You may have partially collapsed arches that can lead to crippling problems when you get older if you do not take the right action now. You will need a prescription from an orthopedic surgeon for the inserts - the real corrective ones are only available by prescription. Many "podiatrists" are not really medical doctors and cannot correctly diagnose or recommend solutions. Make sure you go to a real MD or DO.
