GM Certified Warranty - How Much it Costs the Dealer

Well I'm making a deal on a 2015 Silverado today, it comes with a GM Certified warranty. Don't know if it is really worth it or if it is no hassle ... but I'll take it.

Interesting thing I found out while discussing (arguing) the best price with the sales manager -- he said, "Well I could take off the GM warranty and give you a better price that way." So it turns out the value of the GM Certified warranty on a truck with 31,000 miles -- is worth a grand total of just $342, that is all it cost them to sell it to you. Amazing when you consider what an extended warranty would cost you if you bought it outright -- $2000-3000 ??

Just another way to make $$$ off of you.

That Certified warranty is co sponsored by GM and the dealership. They just told you what they would rebate you for not taking it. My wife's car had it on it when we bought it in 2013. I know the salesman very well. He showed me that the warranty cost the dealership around $500-600 depending on the car. It costs GM over $1000 and is figured in the resale of the car/truck. So if you do not take it your still paying GM and the dealership for some of it.

On my wife's car the warranty also included oil changes for 24 months too. I think it was a good deal on THAT car. The car was only about $1500 higher than any I could find privately and had 20K fewer miles PLUS the warranty. It worked out well for us.

Thanks, good to know the whole story. I do think it is worth it. I also got the 24 mos. oil changes (and also maybe roadside assistance).

I don't remember the exact figures. But back when I worked at a GM dealer the parts manager bought a mini van and then bought the GM extended warranty at a much reduced cost through some GM dealer way off in another state who specialized in selling them. He found them on the internet somehow ?

On that 24 month oil change did it state that it had to be a certain percent oil life left?? My '17 Silverado is 5%. Only got 4400 hundred miles on it bought new Nov.'16

It may well be, I'll have to look at the fine print. I don't know what the change intervals are.
