Farmington, New York?

My sister put in a job application out there and might be moving. Just wondering about it. The good bad and indifferent. Thanks,
Sod Breaker.

Fastest growing area of upstate. Served by both Victor and Canandaigua school districts.
Located just north of Canandaigua Lake which is one of the Finger Lakes. Bad ? New York taxes.

Beautiful area, nice people, rough winters but it looks like you're used to that.

I lived a few miles south of there for 5 years and loved it.

For a few years, I took my wheat west to Churchville via the thruway. Somewhere over there, it seemed the snow would always be worse. I recall one dark morning when my truck started slowing down. I even had to downshift. I was alarmed until I figured out enough snow had dropped in the roadway that it was offering significant resistance. Then in the shadows I could see vehicles off the road. Here in the central Fingerlakes, and west towards Churchville, no problem.

It's a nice area to live in. The Finger Lakes with Ithaca and Watkins Glen along with Rochester are reasonably
close. Plenty of other nice towns and attractions around. Virtually no crime and good shopping is close by. I don't
know that the snow is any worse than the surrounding areas.

Farmington is a bedroom community of Rochester. Pretty much indistinguishable from Canandaigua. If she likes suburban living an excellent choice. Good number of horse operations close by with the track right there.
Traffic coming and going from the thruway can be a sumnagun during rush hour. Probably not bad if you are used to commting into a city, but for this hillbilly it is heavy.
There is also plenty of more rural living if she wants to move out a bit.

Nice area! Two of my kids and a bunch of friends live nearby in Victor and Palmyra; they all like it.

Area has excellent schools, low crime, moderate traffic (and only during rush hour), lots of shopping nearby (huge Eastview Mall, Waterloo Outlets, etc), close proximity to the beautiful Finger Lakes region, world-class medical nearby at the Univ of Rochester, etc.

Downsides: Onerous property and state income and sales taxes (which applies EVERYWHERE in NY State, not just to Farmington!). And winter storms can be a challenge - though the local hwy depts and NYDOT do an outstanding job keeping roads open during even the heavy snow events.

I'd have no hesitation moving there!
