Front Wheel Stud Installation

I need to install some new studs on the front wheel. Any suggestions on how to do it without an impact wrench? Most of the videos and posts I have seen all reference using an impact.

Thanks in advance!

Take the hub off. lay it on your workbench and drive them in with a hammer.4 pound 'singlejack' is my hammer of choice. use a couple of blocks of wood to help support if needed.I never use an "impact" to seat studs. Always drive them in.

Steve on a front wheel drive vehicle you have to pull them into the hub/bearing assembly with a nut. You can not get to the back side to drive them in.

They are only using an impact wrench for speed/ease. I have put them in with just a ratchet.

Some tips:
1) IF you do not have an extra nut you can use one of the lug nuts but make sure to use the flat side.
2) Use anti-seize on the threads of the stud.
3) Put a flat washer between the hub and nut. Grease both sides of the washer. This acts like a bearing. The nut will turn easier while pulling the stud into place.

JD, beg to differ. I have replaced the studs in many 4x4 dodges and we drive the studs in. Chevy's and Fords also. Place the old rotor right side up, new right side down on top of old rotor and drop studs in and then drive them in. 8 lb short handled sledgehammer works perfect.

I am talking about front wheel drive ONLY vehicles. Your talking 4x4 pickups that do not use bearing and hub complete assembles.

I was too cheap[ to buy an impact wrench until I got one. Handiest thing ever. You can probably find a cheap one / used one someplace, you may REALLY like it.
