detroit diesel experts....

All,

On a 16v92TA series Detroit diesel, back-to-back V8's, there's a small hose in between the heads (both sides). Sure enough, one is leaking. There's about 2 and 1/4 inches between the heads, the hose has two screw gear clamps, and the fittings that are in the head look to be about 3/8 pipe thread.

Anyone have experience on tha tiny hard-to-reach coolant hose, or a work-around?

Thanks,

D.

After you cut the old one out. If you use silicone hose it will be much more pliable, for putting back in there. Do be careful you don't over tighten the hose clamps to not cut the hose with them. a thin smooth ended tool will help with getting it in place. If you have some silicone grease it will slip into place much easier applied to the inside of the hose in a sparing manner. did the short on on an 856 tractor last summer changing the water pump like that.

We used to use a pair of needle nose pliers inserted into the open
ends of the new hose, squeeze together, then wiggle over the ends
of the two fittings and release/remove the pliers.
Unscrew and install hose clamps then tighten.

Tom Mo, and others,

I guess I'll try to size a new silicone hose after I get the old one removed.

Do you folks think that a spring clamp would work for the few psi the coolant system is at?

Tom, as far as noise, well the engine is about 1800 rpm at full speed, and being a 2 stroke, 2 turbo, 2 blower engine, they make
plenty of it.

Tied to a generator to create electricity, and do so wonderfully,

D.
