So I did go to an auction today

For all of you that comment on my post earlier this week "thinking about going to a auction" I did go to the auction today. I consider it a success on my part, being a first time bidder. I bought the JD cultivator for a $100.00 and the Brillion cultipacker for $175.00. I think I did pretty good, the cultivator is in nice shape and sweeps are like new. The one disk marker is missing which is ok, I am taking the other off and I am going to make it a four row for now. As for the packer the tongue needs some work and I have enough metal to rebuild it. The axle and wheels are in good shape, it is 10ft wide. They seem to bring big money on CL or at dealers in worst shape. So all in all I consider it a success on part for a novice!

There was only a 5% buyer premium for anything under $1000.00 none for anything a 1000 or over. The auctioneer was good I thought. He made sure everyone understood the terms and conditions. He also told anyone to stop him whenever to ask about bids or questions to make sure everyone was on the same page. I though that was good. There were about 200 or so people for being a cold windy snowy day I had fun and will definitely being attempting more auctions in the future.

Sorry the pictures didn't load the first time.

The good news is that you did well, the bad news is that you now have the "auction fever" ;-)
It's not contagious but there isn't a cure:-(

I think the final was $1500. It looked decent I walked buy it but didn't look close the rubber looked good. It was running from the time I got there till just before it came up for bid. It sat there and idled away really smooth.

Haha! My wife will lime to hear that. She did tell me I cannot take her truck anymore... She was just giving me a hard time because she couldn't go with me today.

Yup your a auction Junkie addict now. Your hook. Glad you had fun and got some good buys. I have been going to auction before I could walk!!!

NYOlivers that was a lot more than a success, that was very close to GRAND THEFT  jd cultivators that size and in that condition go for well over a thousand! $100.00 is stealing it. I thought I knew a little bit about buying at auctions but to hec with it i'm just going to send you my shopping list, and let you do the buying. $125.00 for the packer!! NYOliver I would lock the gate, lock the doors, turn the lights out, hide in the basement and when the sherriff knocks on the door DON'T answer

The so called disc marker is a stablizer disc to minimize drift. If you cut it down to four rows, put it in the center of the cultivator.

You did great.
The cultipacker especially.
All the deer plotters bid those up to ridiculous prices here.
Like $50 - $75+ a foot.
I looked a long time to find this one - 8' double rollers.
Paid $350 for it and had to fix the frame on one end that was cracked.
My hunting friends said I stole it and try to hoodwink me into selling and have offered more than double what I paid.

Hahaha... What do you need???? That's a good idea. Ill Probally never get that lucky again. I did what everyone told me had a price in my head and watched what was going on. There was only one guy bidding against me on both items. I figured to spend more on the cultivator but it never went that high.

The cultivator was cheap but guys around here tend to want IH 183, 153, or 133 cultivators. I've got an 183 6 row and was looking for an IH 4 row to take down to 2 for the garden. Even the roughest nastiest IH brought at least 400 dollars. I think I priced a JD 825 way back in 1987 new at 3,000 dollars. I don't remember if anymore if it was S tine or C shank. The local Case IH dealer (formerly IH) had the 183 as a holdover for just under 2,700 dollars so that is what I bought.

Yes exactly!! Same thing around here. I will use it for my food plots also. The deer hunters are also buying small grain drills as fast as someone can put a for sale sign on them. On Thursday I seen a nice little 8ft oliver drill on CL. I couldn't call when I was at work so I called on it as soon as I was out. The guy sold it in just a few hours and told me I was the 5th or 6th call on it. I was going to use it just for deer food plots.

I second the motion that you STOLE that cultipacker ! You're lucky I went to Finger Lakes Produce machinery sale..lol.
Did you see what the Westgo stone picker sold for ?

We are planning on putting in sweet corn behind the barn this year. That's what I want to use it for. If it doesn't work out well I am sure I can get my money back out of it and try something different.

I think 1200 or more I do not remember honestly. There was a absentee bid of 1000 on it he said.

How was that auction?

Yup no big deal. Thankfully there were not any Oliver tractors, I would have had to come back home and get the gooseneck!

Coryn's is coming up on the 21st and they usually have a number of Whites and Olivers. Oliver's tend to be 50 or 55 series tractors.

I seen the listing on auctuonzip.com. No listing of items or pictures though. I bought some parts from them before.

Tractor #6 is not even here yet. I'm not currently looking for anymore tractors "at the present time"! Lol... You know unless a 1955 with fender tanks and bolt on duals comes along. Honestly I am trying to get more implements and equipment right now. Do they usually have other items to auction besides tractors?

Mostly small dairy farm equipment including hay and forage equipment as well as tillage. Run as a consignment sale so anything can show up. It seems that every year a really nice vintage corn planter shows up. Tractors tend to run heavy in White, Oliver, or IH but nothing is excluded. I am going to keep an eye out for older Farmalls there. That is unless something changes my plans and that has happened a fair amount as of late. I did not go to the sale down at Penn Yan today for a variety of reasons.

I saw an 1850 with a cab and fender tanks in a dealer ad here in Michigan the other day. Said needed engine work. They wanted $2900. Willing to travel?

Well, If my memory is correct, the auctioneer that held the auction has less than a good reputation. That may have something to do with prices.

Some places almost all the auctioneers charge a buyers premium, depends on the area.Personally I don't care one way or the other just figure the BP into the final price when bidding.

Traveling is no problem. We went to MI to pickup the new trailer last fall. Can you get me the contact info? Doesn't hurt to find out. We a 1950T comming up from Indiana soon that needs motor work. I got a smokin' deal on the shipping I couldn't go pick it up myself for the price we got. I think it was a good deal because I was in no hurry for it and told the guy when ever he gets a full load comming this way Ill take it then.

That's a nice packer a million times better than mine . the one I have is way older and lighter built with a 2 inch shaft and wooden bearings

I wish I could find a double roller model . I know where there is one with the little 4 foot extension rollers but I know the guy won't sell it

My neighbor has one like that, looks like it sat at the bottom of a ocean for 50 years. I used to borrow it from him. So for that I rebuilt it for him got rid of the broken half missing wooden bearings. Replaced With some pillow block bearings, found him some better wheels and welded and fixed up the frame work. So now I got a good packer now and he's got a refurbished one!!

sv. just give your equipment list to NYOliver like i'm going to do  any guy that can go to an auction and STEAL equipment like nyo is the guy you need buying your equipment. just be sure and run out to the back 40 if you see nyo coming and there's a sheriffs cruiser behind him! in that case you don't know him, never heard of him

Scuffler is not a term used in the USA. it was always a cultivator untill field cultivators started getting popular then row was added to name for row crop cultivators to distinguish between them.
