I am working on a case 470. I put a new clutch and pressure plate in and I had to adjust the throw out bearing out an inch from where it was before I tor it apart. I didn't keep the old one to go back and compare but according to IT manual the release fingers are set right. HELP. thanks Frank

thats a normal operation. as the clutch disc wears, the finger to brg. distance decreases. that is why you do periodic free play adjustments to keep the fingers from rubbing on the brg. the fingers on pressure plate are usually set correctly on new units.

thank you both but all the parts I put in are new. I would think I would have had to back it off not go the other way. the old clutch was shot so why would I have to move the bearing forward over an inch.

because you move the brg. away as clutch disc wears, maintaining free play. as disc wears fingers move towards brg. so with new lining u need to move brg. towards disc to get the proper free play again. perfectly normal situation.
