IH 454 Diesel

Thought I might pick anyone's brain on a IH 454 (don't have manual yet) ,
There are 2 hydraulic fluid drain plugs underneath which I believe (the forward one) is to empty the drive train chamber (rear one) to drain pto chamber. 2 questions - Is the fill port in the rear (behind the seat) the only fill for the whole hydraulic system, including power steering? Also, after removing the center bolt from the hydraulic filter cover, is there any other fastener to remove to get that cover off? It is not budging even with a few pretty good rubber mallet whacks.

As always Thanks in advance!

Yes, the two drain plugs are so you can get all the fluid out of both compartments but you fill them both from the plug behind the seat. And yes, if it's been awhile since the filter has been changed you'll need to whomp the cover pretty emphatically with something like a plastic-covered dead-blow mallet to get it off (but don't worry, it's a really solid cover, as you'll see when you do get it removed). When replacing it, make sure you get the old rubber gasket out of the slot and replace with a new one.

If yours hasn't been abused too badly by previous owners you'll find that this is a really solid tractor that does what you ask of it without any drama.

Really appreciate the feed back. didn't want to take the force up a notch or 2 with asking first. This one was a barn find... very good running solid tractor, and I love the power it has on a smaller frame machine.

Thanks again for the info.
