My weekend project

I finally put down the floor in the living room that we pulled up from another house a while back. Man was this a lot of work! Lol. Sure am glad I had a couple helpers, grandkids Tannaka and Gage. They really worked hard all weekend. I have to go through what's left to see if there is enough for the kitchen yet. I wasn't originally going to do the kitchen, but if there is enough left I will.

I still need to trim and put in the door thresholds.

Reusing material can be a challenge but wort it. Very nice contribution to the home. Good help is always a blessing. Give them a hug. Jim

You did a good job pulling up the floor from the other house, normally it gets busted up pretty bad. Also a good looking crew, I hope they were reward well for helping.

Wait till you sand and finish the floor. Bet most of the guys on here will tell you that you will always have little tiny edges that will catch things. After you nail it down, have somebody come in and sand and finish it correctly. Will eat up the cost of your free floor but will look perfect and wear forever. Will be a half the cost floor but well worth it.

It was work but sure looks good. I think wood adds a warm feeling to a home.

I'm not sure, I'll ask. They say sure, but only as a pair since they have the system down. Lol

Nice job! what did you use for underlayment? I have always used 15lb felt. And what kind of wood is that?

Just to add another story. When I worked in a school system many years ago the BRAND NEW grammar school open for not even a month. Janitor came in and found that a 2 inch supply main had let go. How much water do you get through a 2 inch pipe that is busted for several hours in the middle of the night? They had just finished laying the hard rock maple floor in the gym like the week before. The very day the main let go was the day of dedication as the finish was dry. Turned it into a giant twisted mess of precut firewood. Started pulling up the floor like a day or two later. You never want to see what a mess that was. You want to cry. Nothing can be saved.

I don't like the "spongy" floor feeling you get with that underlayment.
Another use for yoga pants and leisure pants. They deserve some white bibs like decorators and painters wear. lol

Very nice Jon.
When I saw your post I kinda figured it was going to be about the floor.
I sent a link to this thread to the lady whose house it came from.
I'm pretty sure she'll be happy to see it get reused.

nice job "tannaka and gage" I hope grampa was bringing you cold pops and ice cream! and tell grampa good floor layers like you guys get $2.00 per sq. ft. laying floor.

I sure would've liked to have gotten my hands on that bent, twisted flooring!! I would have let it air dry thoroughly with weight on it, stacked and stickered. Then, anything still twisted would get cut into shorter, straighter pieces. And finally, all the boards would be planed to an even thickness. That wood would have been great for future flooring, or any number of other projects. A bit of work, but that's the cost for free wood, right?

It worked out great. Thanks for making it available to me. If you ever put any down I got nails. Lol. They talked me into buying way more than I needed. Bought the big box, doubt I used 25% of it.

did my office floor with the hardwood, you are right it's a lot of work, didn't think my knees would ever get back to normal.
