Saw a Moose

Its not all that unusual anymore to see a moose here although they tend to stay out of sight most of the time. I surprised this one , and it surprised me, when I rounded a corner in the woods and there it was relaxing in the sun. Could not get real close or great video with the phone but enough to recognize what it was anyway.

You missed seeing it?
Carvel Minne farmer, there are tags for a few moose in this area in hunting season and there have been a few taken out of that part of our farm. I'm ok with it as I don't need too many of them tramping around in the crop all summer. But I don't hunt myself. Maybe the nephews will get a chance.

Seeing your cattle and the moose in the same video reminds me of the case of the moose that fell in love with Jessie the cow in Vermont back in the 80s. He hung around her for quite a while.
Easy to find on Google.

Rusty: the cows do look FULL and satisfied. When do you calf? Probably does not really warm up there for a while yet eh. gobble

I just read that the moose are thriving in NW ND, but they are declining in N MN. I watched a video recently of a wolf trying to take down a moose, but the moose got out into deep water and the wolf had to let go.

Looks like a huge animal. Even from a distance you can see it's big. Years ago drove all through northern Maine, then across to Nova Scotia. Moose X-ING sings all over. Only moose I saw was the one on the signs :-(

Actually its pretty mild here now for Sask. Temp around +20F which is plenty comfortable but still everything is dry and frozen which is much nicer than calving in the mud. First one born a week ago out in the bush and bulrushes and dark. Had to call in some help to get them home and penned up in the shelter as I was a little concerned about coyotes around a new born calf. Its a whole other story (and video) so more to come.
