Just bought a nice IH 454 diesel. Not sure of year... SN is 221001250007196 (for anyone that might know their nomenclature). Anyway I'm going through it without a manual (just looking it over for servicing locations). Can anyone tell me if the steering column height can be adjusted? Even with the seat all the way back it's tight sliding a leg through over to the side. I'm sure I'll have more questions as I proceed through it.

Hi, steering wheel is not adjustable. The original seat was very thin and someone may have replaced it a seat from another
model.

From tractordata.com serials for 454:
1970: 501
1971: 508
1972: 4908
1973: 8064

So your 454 about mid 1972.

Thanks! That is what I thought. Someone put the real nice weight adjustable seat. Nice, but bulky and too high for a 6 footer plus on this smaller frame tractor. Thanks for the deciphering there too.

Thought I might pick your brain again on the IH 454 (still no manual) ,
There are 2 drain plugs which I believe (the forward one) is to empty the drive train chamber (rear one) to drain pto chamber. 2 questions - Is the fill port in the rear (behing the seat) the only fill for the whole hydraulic system, including power steering? Also, after removing the center bolt from the hydraulic filter case, is there any thing else to remove to get that cover off? It is not budging even with a few pretty good rubber mallat whacks.
