Well, thanks everyone for the great
replies. I'm glad so many that actually had
one commented. I think I will try one when
I need it, but will go with gas because we
don't have enough electricity for an
electric and we are on nat gas. But for
now I was able to fix mine. I'm not usually
one to fix household appliances. I'm no
good at it myself and by the time I pay a
repair shop it's more than its worth. But
in this case, with the help of the
interweb, I was able to determine it was
the thermostat. So for less than $30 and an
easy repair it's fixed, for now at leadt.

If you get 6 months or so out of it, it's still worth it.
Spent 100 on a repair to my old water heater 6 years ago (I was renting the house out at the time and lived 3 hours away, otherwise I'd fixed it myself), thermocouple was replaced and the tank is still working (knock on my head, er wood) at 22 years old.
