Mf3165 3pt hitch issues

So I have a 3165 tractor and having issues with 3pt hitch not holding a halfway height position, only will raise all the way up (constant pump)and once lever is moved from constant pump 3pt hitch drops, with weight on fast and if nothing drops slowly. I have all the manuals to do everything assembly wise just don't have this exact trouble shooting in my literature in books and I feel as if every manual I have for mechanical things the trouble shooting always leaves out the issues I get haha. But anyway I have top cover off and just ordered lift piston rings(3),standpipe/cap o-rings (3),standpipe washers (2), and hydraulic filter(mine was probably original by looks) lol. Was wondering if this the fix for my issues and if there is more I should do while im in the tractor this far please nit pick like a dealership mechanic would on replacements haha.

Thanks mike

Ok I'm not very familiar with all the different parts on tractor this being the first one I've owned and slowly learning different fixes as things malfunction haha. So if you could tell me exact location of the relief valve in there and how it bolts I'm sure I can find it .... im assuming this would be hooked to pump???
Thanks again, mike

Would it be called a "safety valve assembly" and it has o-ring for it also (according to my parts book) . But if this isn't it then im in need of location....

You have been given good advice but there are some other issues that you may have to address. You may want to post this on the MH & MF board, there are several posters that could give some more info on what may be the problem or problems. "Constant Pumping" is only for using a loader or other high hydraulic load implement, don't place the lever there and leave it, it can cause a lot of damage.

Ok nvm that is the relief valve, another page had a psi rating next to it, and I got it ordered. One thing im having issues with is getting the piston out of lift housing to replace rings once they come in.... Thanks mike

Oooh well I'm glad we bought a pull behind bushhog to mow so we didn't use 3pt much but we are about to start using our plow and blade for sum land/drainage maintenance. But I have moved plow with 3pt and constant pump was only way I could lift but what is done is done that's why im trying to fix haha. Could me lifting that with constant pump caused the seals im fixing to blow??? Or what can doing this cause? Cuz I'm in here far so if I need to fix something else now is the time.... thanks mike

Btw have only done the constant pump thing for maybe 30mins worth of tractor time total , I moved plow a few times to mow and now I realise I should have used loader to move but w.e now it's past and now know not to do that in future haha

If the lift cover is set correctly, the POSITION lever will stop and hold the three point at any given setting, with the DRAFT lever full up. The draft lever is for ground engaging tools, it will raise-lower the three point but it won't hold at any set height as it's not supposed to. That's what the position lever is for. Make sure the correct lever is used for the job at hand. If the position does not act right there may be internal linkage trouble with incorrect adjustment settings.

Icic will note that once I get back together will test levers out but with the said repairs I'm gonna do and my book refers me to the lift cover adjustments on almost every trouble shooting issue besides mine so I'm gonna adjust lift cover levers and mechanics also with new seals, rings, and relief valve for hydraulics so hopefully once I put back together everything is nice and new and operates as intended.... and should be getting everything by Monday so should be able to update sometime next week with repairs or questions about something cuz I'm not a tractor mechanic just play one around the house lol..... Thanks mike

So I dug deeper into lift cover and came across something not so good.... my draft control lever had the pin broke so it was jus spinning and not moving internal part and also the draft control roller was buggered up had a nice groove in it from rolling. Got the new parts on way now so I'm guessing this might have been the main issue but I got other stuff already and it taken apart so it's all going back together new now haha and hopefully wont have to tear it apart like this for a good while.

So took some time getting parts for the internals of the lift cover but finally got everything needed (including a spring that I found out i lost during disassembly.... springs fly once relieved of pressure haha). unfortunately my manuals do not show valid pictures with everything assembled but I do know, I now have all parts that my parts book shows so I just need advice on where the position control spring hooks too I know one end hooks to the finger where the hole is drilled but other end I wasn't able to hunt down my parts book makes it look like it hooks to the cam but I hooked it up to that and there isn't any tension on spring so it's very loose and I feel it will fall out.....advice please?? I'll post a pic of what I'm talking about and where I'm thinking it hooks to but....... this is my first tractor and not so sure and this is a delicate thing.
Thanks mike

This site needs to upgrade picture uploading because it's a nightmare figuring all this out lol

Top pic is what I'm guessing and it apply a tad bit
Of pressure to hold finger up but hooking up the bottom pic way is what I was getting from book info which was words and I'm a picture book kinda guy lol any nuges in right direction are greatly appreciated
thanks mike

Any massey ferguson fixers out there that got info on this spring location???? I got great pics to show if more is needed let me know and hoping my pictures will help others fix there 3pt issues because this is probably a comm9n thing to fix on these older tractors
Thanks , mike
