Need a TV sound guru

We bought a new LG smart TV from BestBuy about 2 weeks ago.
Boy the place sure has some idiots working there.

I have been trying to hook up a set of headphones to it.
Long story short; after several trips to Bestbuy I finally broke down and called LG customer service.

This is where I have gotten so far.

I have wireless headphones that will hook to a 3.5 mm headphone jack or red and white RCA plugs.
Both are male plugs.

I have a TV that has RCA plugs on the back but acording to LG rep they are for input only.
To hook up a DVD or such player.
He informed me that the only audio output on the TV is either a square fiber optic plug or HDMI ACR plug.
Both of these plugs are female.

Can someone give me some ideas of the cheepest way to hook this together.
MALE headphone jack or RCA TO Female fiber optic or HDMI.

That sounds awfully strange. We have a new Vizio tv and it has 5 HDMI inputs plus vidio component but all the outputs are for sound; RCA, 3.5, and fiber. What does your user manual say?

Are you going to put a wireless transmitter at the tv so no cord is needed for the headphones. That is what we are contemplating. Headphones are a bit pricey, but wireless blutooth transmitters pretty reasonable. I know I did not answer any of your questions, but, just recently been pursuing the headphone idea. gobble

Yes, why not use your wireless headphones wirelessly?

might not work with your wireless headphones but try this:

put the headphones into pairing mode and go to Settings (then) Remotes and Devices (then) Bluetooth. Wait for the headphones to appear and select them to pair and connect to tv.

What's the model # for your TV? Maybe the Owner's Manual is online and will have the info in it. At the very least, it should have a diagram of all connection points.

There may not be a cheap way to do it. A lot of TVs no longer have direct audio outputs.

Some LG TVs support Bluetooth headphones, you'd need to check your TV and then buy new headphones if yours aren't Bluetooth compatible.

The HDMI ARC (Audio Return Channel) is designed to pass the audio signal back to a stereo amp or a soundbar. If you have a receiver that can decode it then you could connect the headphones to that. I'm not aware of anyone that makes headphones that will directly connect to it.

The TV is not Bluetooth compatible.

So I have a Bluetooth headphones set that has a transmitter box that sits next to the TV.
This transmitter box has a 3.5 mm female plug. It is the small piece that looks like a USB drive in the picture.
I have 2 wires that takes this female plug to either 2 male RCA plugs or a 3.5 mm male plug.
This is how you hook the transmitter box to the TV.

The Problem.......

The TV does not have a 3.5 mm plug or RCA output plugs.
Well it has RCA plugs but they are for input only.
The output from the TV per the owners manual and confirmed by LG support is a fiber optic plug or a ACR (in and out) HTMI plug.
Marked by yellow in picture.

LG support said I need a adapter; OR a new Bluetooth headphone set that has the proper wire ends; OR a DVD; Blu-ray player as I could hook the headphones to this player.

I am trying to find a adapter as I feel that will be my cheapest way out.
The TV model number is 49UJ6200.

Optical digital cable is $$$. I got a SurfLink so I could get the audio through my hearing aids and my TV only has optical and a headphone jack. A four foot optical cable cost me $50. When I got home and set it up I saw the SrufLink had all the different inputs on it. Could have just used a headphone cable.

You might try something like this, it is only $10 at WalMart, they also sell something similar on Amazon.com.

https://www.monoprice.com/product?p_id=6884 Monoprice is your friend. They have various converters and HDMI ARC cables to pick from and the best prices.

Thanks for the above info as I have the same exact model TV and could not use my old analog speakers, placed adapter order through Walmart
