Whats a good parts washer fluid, non water based, as my shop is not heated. Either ready made or a mix. I use it for mostly degreasing large parts when working on combine or tractor or cleaning old carburators for mt tractors.

I use just plain old mineral spirits. My "chinese p.o.s" (others sayings) Harbor Freight washer has lasted over 20 years and still going. Maybe I got the only good one EH?
 
I use 'safty solvent'parts cleaning solvent. I used to buy at my fuel supplier but they quit selling it. buy it from NAPA. It's expencive(7 to 10 dollars pr gallon). but safer than gasoline and not oily like diesel.Lasts a long time.Drys dry,not oily.
 
If you want to paint stuff that you've cleaned up, use straight mineral spirits- if you add diesel, sthe part will end up oily. If you clean up a lot of real gunky stuff, might want to have 2 parts washers- one with diesel for the heavy gunk, then finish off with straight mineral spirits to get rid of the diesel.
 
I just changed mine a month or so ago. 20 gallons of mineral spirits.

It may have been slightly overdue.

Last time I bought Agitene it was forty bucks . I looked it up 100 bucks for five gallons . No more Agitene for me . To costly.
 
Well, Stoddard solvent is the best for degreasing, but - it's by far the most toxic. Used in dry clean process for decades. It will cause impairment if inhaled often, and readily soaks into skin causing rashes, and leads to cognitive and nervous system problems.

So, if you use Stoddard solvent, use full gloves, and a respirator. But - it really works well. Not even sure how or where to buy it anymore.
 
I have been using Blaster brand of washer solvent. I buy it at Farm and Fleet for $55 a five gallon pail. It dries dry without an oily film. I just put it in with my used motor oil and it burns OK as it has a higher flash point.
