Old picture from the farm

My daughter found some old pictures at her mother's house the other day. This is my Dad, digging through the snow in Nebraska, sometime in the early 1950s.

Just a dusting of snow and a use what ya got window. My dad did that
with a couple of small frame windows.

All the layers of dirt in the snow bank suggest high winds and daily drifting snow rather than a few heavy snowfalls. It takes a lot of work to dig out almost every single morning.

That wouldn't have been 1949, would it? As I recall, there was a horrendous snow that year. Trains were snowed in for a month, and they finally began delivering hay to cattle with transport airplanes. If I recall correctly, there was a rancher killed out in the Sandhills when he got hit by a bale of hay dropped from a C-47.

Could have been in 1949. I was just guessing on the date of the picture. I know that after Dad came back from WW2 , they stayed in Nebraska till I was born in 1955. They left when I was about year old. My first memories are from Greeley, Colorado.

Our vet from years back, Harold Hester was from Greeley. He had a brother, also a vet that lived there and did some work for Monfort feedlot. He was a hard working, slow talking character.

I almost said mostly in Vermont but I didn't want to put a limit on it. Do you see that in NY. My FIL's house in Springfield Vermont had a slanted window.

They are around. Something that one sees more in Craftsman styled, homes and many of those 2 story two family homes with an outside staircase had windows running up the enclosed outside stair cases with the windows parallel to the roof.
