Who am I feeding

Every evening the deer are on the new seeding, grazing for the Birdsfoot Trefoil planted last year. Tender. While part of the cattle herd look on.

2003, when we had a Valentine's Day blizzard, weeks later when the snow settled , the deer filled the hills. One afternoon there were 75 on the knolls digging.

Yeah - I would guess a deer eats 1/3rd of what a cow does, so it adds up - my brother has a blueberry farm, and it's a constant battle - he calls them long legged rats
Loren is 25 miles or so west of there - I hate the taxes here, but NY has some beautiful geography

You can kill them in Ohio but you have to let them lay, you are not allowed to butcher them after you shoot them, which I think is pure BS

Yeah, that's crazy. Not sure if it was the law or not here in MI, but a buddy of mine got a damage control permit for deer a few years back and said he had to use or donate the deer, weren't supposed to let them lay. The orchards around me used to dig a big hole every year, then get their damage permits. They'd shoot between 30-90 deer every year and toss them in the hole and cover it up. Fine with me, too bad they wouldn't use them for anything. That was probably 25 years ago.

I must drive right by your place when I go visit my Cousin Earl and his wife Viv on Gardnersville road!
I bet you know him and his brother Wilson who used to own a farm on Rt. 20 near Sharon Springs.
