I know some people on the site have them,,Does anyone have one,or stories ,or memories of one?

Most AC guys around here were on the small side and had D15's and D17's. I've seen a couple of original owner D21's.

Larry, my uncle ran a small dairy farm and I would disc, cut hay, bale hay and anything else he wanted done. He had a D 17 that was one of the most awkward tractors I have ever been around. Hard to get on and off. Uncomfortable to sit on and ride and had the most sluggish governor I have ever seen. I am sure I will get slammed for saying that, but it is the truth.

My Grandfather had a brand new one and did not like it at all.Only kept it a year then bought a 190XT. He had several d17's and a D15 that he liked. Tom

Lots of D-17's around Southern Wisconsin. The younger brother had one, I plowed quite a bit with his. It would take 3-16's anywhere I wanted to go. Neighbor had another one that I used with a disc. It was a
dry, windy spring, and sitting a bit low in the drivers seat, the rear tires kicked up enough dirt to make me feel like I was sandblasted by the end of the day.

Brother bought a D-19 Diesel that the motor was almost gone. Needed a sip of ether or it wouldn't start at all. Exhaust was pretty blue so we tore it down and found a small hole in one of the pistons.
Reassembled it, and it ran like a new tractor. His neighbor drove it and he had to have it, so I didn't get a chance to really test it out.

Always wanted a D-14, but every one for sale around here has been high priced and well used, or as my Grampa used to say, "Rode Hard and Put Away Wet!"

I worked for the neighbor every summer starting after 8th grade, and a D14 was his baling tractor. Once you got the hang of it, the "Power Director" was really handy- combination hand clutch, hi-lo and live PTO. I really liked that tractor- one of the smoothest running I've seen, before or since.

He also had a JD 40, which I wasn't so thrilled with. But one day I got there and he said "Go down to the shop and bring up the green tractor". When I opened the door, the "green tractor" was a brand new, shiny Oliver 550 diesel! I still have the mental picture of my first sight of it. I got it started and figured out the gearshift enough to back out, and my grin was so wide that he started laughing when I got close enough for him to see. He used to sell me pick of the registered Angus heifers for auction sale prices every summer. He was a great guy- RIP Bob Thomsen.
