I see where KAT'S makes a red one with the element inside the tube and a SILVER one with no element on the inside water way.
Do you fellas know anything about the two types----RED OR SILVER thanks....

Red is old-style, element is immersed in coolant. "Silver" is new style, and made of cast aluminum, element is molded into aluminum surrounding coolant.

New style has replaceable cordset.

Old style MAY be getting phased out.

New style MAY be imported... seems to me the one I used a couple of months ago was, but verify, if this is of concern/interest.

Thanks Bob--I ordered the RED one but received the SILVER one. Do you think the silver one is some better???? thanks

I've used both with no difference in results.

Curious... did you look at the silver one you were sent... as to the country of manufacture?

I've thrown away quite a few of the red ones. Have a silver one on the skid loader now, been on there 2-3 years. Seems to be working OK.

We have used both. They work fine. I just don't think they last as long as the heaters that are in the cylinder block. We have had to change the hose heaters about every 5-10 years and I have block heaters that have been in close to 20 years.
The hose heaters do require that you have a certain degree of angle for convection current flow of coolant and be unplugged before starting if you read the directions for installation. Now don't need no stinking directions.
