IH 886 radio not working right

Bought this tractor a few weeks back. When I drove it around the first time the radio and speakers worked fine. As I was driving it home, it all a sudden quit. I could faintly hear it still going but it had gone near quiet instantly. Could it be the speakers or a fuse? Radio itself works fine, as does about everything else in the cab. Any suggestions? Thanks!

There was a spade terminal somewhere in there, maybe it was right on the radio itself. Fairly sure that's where it was now. Anyway, had the same issue on our 1486. That little spade terminal has a rivet through it holding it to the radio. The vibration had caused the rivet to loosen and lose the connection at times. I pulled the radio out and set the rivet of the radio directly on the anvil and pounded it down a little with a hammer. Worked great ever since. Let us know what you find.

Antenna connection? When you turn it on and off is there a fairly loud pop? If you can hear that distinctive pop when you turn it on that could mean you are getting power to the speakers but no radio sound signal. You antenna wire might have broken or something in the antenna wiring or antenna
has a short. The antenna base needs to be grounded well also.

IF... the output transistor pops... you get a really weak output from the transistor in front of it.

Thank you I'll have to check it one evening this week. This rivet would be somewhere on the back side of the radio?

I can't remember for sure, I was thinking it was on the back of the radio itself. But now that I think about it even more, the radio receives it's power from a jumper wire up in there. I can't remember for sure which device it jumps it's power from, but it does. It's been a long time. If you remove the radio and panel, look around in there. All of that stuff is right there. It seems like that jumper is short and easily traceable. Whatever that jumper runs back to, that is where that riveted terminal is. Wish I could be more help and give you more definitive answers but I just can't remember for sure where it comes from. I do remember that rivet on the terminal on the jumper that goes to the radio, and it all being in the same area, and also remember peening the rivet back down on the anvil with a hammer.
