I address this forum tonight to discuss tractors and stuff by a connection to TY powered by a 4 cylinder trailer powered generator. Not mine, it belongs to the the local communications companies. A slick road accident smashed our "last mile" interconnect amplifier's power supply. The patch box, amps switches/routers, and fibers are just fine (different metal boxes). The generator has been running un-attended for 38 hours now. It sits directly on the sidewalk and has jumper leads connected to the place where the original PS was connected. It seems either they don't have a replacement, or (more likely) they are waiting for a bit of warmth. 4 degrees here right now. Jim

During Hurricane Sandy here in SJ the commuter rail line had a 5K generator at every rail crossing. All they had to do was close the crossing gates. Was half tempted to see if one could run down the road after me. Knew better. Those things get geo tags on them hidden inside of gas tanks, frames, under air filters, false covers. You know. They were all brand new too. Cops don't play nice if they catch ya.

When we had the big fire here the Pg&e shut down the power to the whole county. We had a battery and inverter so we had TV, phone and internet. After a few days we lost internet. Apparently all the fiber dsl substations run on battery backup and went dead. They turned the power back on then, it was either that or bring out generators for each site. They can't leave you without comunication.
