Seal in that comer gear box is about a 20 minute job, don,t know what the cutter would bring, I have selling one without slip clutch

Looke as if the bigger problem is that there is no DECK left. Rot and
fatigue. Metal post didn't help either. You should see what a
sandstone rock in the yard does to the end of a crankshaft on a push
mower. Her kid did the same damn thing latter that summer. Must be
nice buying new mowers. That piece of sand stone is the old property
marker. Took a pretty good chunk out of it. You guys should see what
happens whe you run through an old gristmill foundation! !!!!! My dad
almost totalled a 6 foot rotary.

Hello Hobo NC,

I don't see what the complain is here. That is an heavy duty sheer pin! HE! HE!

Guido.

One of the few pieces of new equipment I've ever had is an FMC 5' rotary cutter (like Bush Hog). I've used it hard for 40 years, and it still has the original shear bolt. The thing looks awful, but still works fine.

What I have done on many rotary cutter gearbox is to drain the gear oil and put Corn head grease in them. It will usually make about 75% usable again. They might leak a little during use but will not leak all the grease out when setting.

As for the shear bolt being a grade 8. I have seen that on a lot of them too. Guys do not think through the possible trouble when things break down stream of the non-shear shear bolt. LOL

I smoked it over after supper I have the material to repair it and would like to fix a cutter that will mow to the ground. WHY! I have a lot in town that has a 8" high weed rule I am only league the day I mow it. This past year I got letters twice in the same month my weeds were to high  And this was in a drought...

The other option is to make a roller that will apply round up

I have a good gear box needs a input shaft seal, a good stump jumper, a nice driveshaft and a nice set of blades I think I will call that a win and move on to the next used cutter I picked with a tractor I brought.
