Dear Mr. Hobo, Thank you very much for the troubleshooting clinic on the F-150 pickup. It was very informative how you skillfully presented a logical sequence of operations rather than random parts replacement and guessing. Thanks!

Thank you, its nothing more then to diagnosis and CONFIRM the basics FIRST its something a bunch of folks cannot get a handle on.

If you were a high school boy that knew nothing and wanted to be a mechanic are just learn about automotive machines what would I have taught you that you could have used on every no start about the basics if I had told you erskine plug a scanner on it....

Guess whut and if you don't believe me ask around, not many folks have a scanner that will hook up to a OBD1 vehicle anymore. diagnosing those pre-OBD2 vehicles is becoming a lost art BUT from the beginning of time the basics have never changed they work on everything no scanner needed to confirm the basics. The best scanner god gave you its you five senses learn to apply them.

Lets ramble on a little bit more...

Question

I am not looking for him to be able to be put on a line at a shop and make a living at it. I am not expecting him to have complete knowledge of all systems.

The question

"If your kid took automotive 4 years in high school what would you at the least expect him to have learned that he could apply the rest of his life".

I am gonna tell ya the first thing that needs to go is all the neat chit they have at school are at the local tinker tech. The instructor should be given all the tools he can tote in his pocket that's it and told to have at it, to lock down all the neat chit (tools) till he has taught his students how to apply the basics. If he cannot teach the basics in four years look for another job we are watching you

Its sad that they cannot produce at least one are two that want to learn.... I know its not all there fraught but that's the problem that needs to be addressed...
