My turn for a RANT

Ok, it's snowing and blowing and I'm board.
My RANT.
Why has everything become a "Journey"
Some citiot is building a house, they call it a "Journey".
Somebody is restoring a vehicle, suddenly it's a "Journey".
Somebody is starting a family and it's a "Journey".
I thought when you get into a car, train, plane, ship or bicycle
that is a "Journey".
Aren't I right?
Ok, Thanks.

I went on a journey an hour ago to the barn to feed the animals. Soon I'm going on a journey to the kitchen to eat supper.

I find those that call every little thing in life a "saga", such as dealing with a simple tractor repair problem even more annoying!

Why does a sentence have to start with OK? Or now it is So. Why not just start with the first word?

That's an easy one. Some of us aren't paying attention and miss the first word or maybe the first sentence even. Starting the sentence with a throw away word gives us a little time to wake up and start listening. So, have you learned what the so is for?

Good post ...... except for the citiot reference Steve. Someone is born in a different place than you and you label him as an idiot, pretty lame comment. Meanwhile, getting back to your message, did you know that nowadays, the car ads tell me that the car I drive is an extension of my personality? I'd be pretty dull .... an '07 Civic and an '02 Caravan.

Guess the journey hasn't hit here yet, but my rant is the youngins say they are going to like do something. we are going to like go to town, going to like go shopping. Are they just pretending to do something when they are going to like do it ?

I'd rather go on a Journey then perform a bunch of life hacks. To me the word hack means doing bad things. To young people it means good thing to fallow or good advice.

A journey is just a change of state (i.e. status) or location that takes a relatively long time. The examples you cite can all be correctly referred to as a journey. Now, that is not to say it isn't over-used. It may be, but that doesn't make it wrong.

COME ON SPRING, me thinks we're all getting a case of Cabin Fever. I know I am anyhow. LOL Have a great day everyone. Keith

Some guys decide to form a band -- called it Journey.

Ooops, I see a couple of other folks beat me to the band.

Building a house could be a journey if it's a mobile home.
Restoring a vehicle is enough to drive anyone crazy.
Starting a family makes you want to run.

Because the social media craze has brought out the natural narcissicism of people, many people are now convinced that their normal day to day routines are really special events that everyone else should be in awe of.

....and why does the word "RIGHT" ? have to come after every sentence now-a-days. " I know...right? Every generation wants to be "different" than their parents...BUT...they still smoke ????

Finallly! Thank you for bringing that up. I was beginning to think it was just me that is annoyed every time he hears this annoying new mis-use of the word "so". And I hear it "so" much. :)

Being dramatic is a new thing, right? Just saw a sales flyer from John Deere titled "How to keep your tractor in the fight" Date? 1943. Obviously a reference to WWII, but the tractors weren't literally fighting, were they?

People have been playing with language since there was language. A couple hundred years ago, people showed how "smart" they were by how many different ways they could spell one word.

in the modern world the media personnel continually comes up new catch phrases. i suppose it did in the past too but electronic media makes much more easier.

touchdown is now touch
forward pass is now catch and run
lay up is now lay in
hit and run is now run and hit

there are so many more.

Maybe a 'ton' of information, a 'ton' of work, a 'ton' of ideas. I can't picture how two thousand pounds of these would look. TDF

We live in a time when words mean more than actions to a segment of the population that is growing every day. Things that are even a little bit more than mundane get their own very own superlative.

Have you noticed that everyday weather is now an "event" We had a snow event last night, later in the week a warming event is expected.

I did hear yesterday about the current flue epidemic, which was a surprise as the last couple years the flue season has been a Pandemic. I dont see any difference myself???. When I got the epidemic I felt like crap, headaches, puked and had the runs,, Then I got the dreaded pandemic,,, and I felt like crap, headaches, puked and had the runs.

Taking the time to respond to entries in this forum is a journey in itself.

Haven't had a 'pandemic' since the 50's. Last one was in 1918. I was 9 years old when the 50's pandemic hit; haven't had the Flu or gotten a Flu shot since. I was in bed, couldn't move or get warm or eat for an entire WEEK. No hospital; if I died, well...But I survived. My point? There were survivors of the 1918 pandemic that never got the 50's version, even though they were much older. No flu vaccines then, either. I worked with the public and in school systems and while I got pneumonia three times, I NEVER got the 'flu'.

ALSO, It irritates me, when a person always ends his 'sentence' with "OK ?"
my doctor does that constantly.

Yessir, but Pandemic sounds so much more dramatic than a simple epidemic and was the buzz word the last few years until this year.

The worst. THE VERY WORST....Has to be, Baby-mamma, or Baby-Daddy/ I just cringe.........
