Ebay changes !@X$#@

I have a large collection of sales brochures and farm equipment manuals that I have bought at dealer sales and other places. We have decided to downsize some and last winter sold a fair amount on Ebay. Wife started putting some more on this week and the format has changed but everything seemed to list ok. I mainly list with auction format with a reasonable first bid. Now I start getting offers on the items that are less than or equal to first bid I posted. If I wanted Buy it Now I would have went that route instead of auction listing. Is there some box I am not checking or clicking on when listing? I am not interested in dealing with low offers. I list it and when auction is over we ship. If it does not bring first bid price it goes back into storage and maybe try again next year or just keep it. If some one has something as buy it now or best offer I sometimes make an offer but always thought the idea of auction was an auction to determine price. Maybe I am doing something wrong and someone here can help with what to do different. Thanks Tom

yes I do believe you have a choise and there is a area that says MORE OPTION you have to click on and open additional listing options.

If you are not activating the "Best Offer" button, how are buyers making contact with you to make a low ball offer?

If it is via "contact seller", report them as violating the rules.

I just looked at one of my active auctions and there's no
"make an offer" button on it so maybe there's an option
your missing. A while back eBay had different options in
different sections. Tractors vs Computers for example.
Maybe that's the case here too but that's speculation.

Cant help much with the technical end but I am guilty of doing that!!!! Have had it done to me to. Look at it as a yard sale or flea market some of this stuff is slow moving!!

I understand it's an option you could choose OldIron, but choosing
it gives the buyers a "make an offer" button they can click on
which shows up on the active auction. Similar to this picture.
Looks like the option might be "best offer".

Tom,

I looked up your auctions and you have three listed as "or best offer" - it's the 12 implement brochures, the 6 implement brochures, and the 8 massey combine brochures. I'd guess you're getting lowball offers on those three auctions? You also have a Buy-it-now on the 3300, 4400 manual. I haven't listed stuff on ebay in years because they've gotten awful greedy as far as commission, but do they have a "recommended" way, based on how you list things? Maybe you're getting led into their "recommended" ways without realizing it... Can you pull them and relist them without the OBO?

That's weird, when I look at them only one for 6 shows Best/Make offer.

With the new e-bay format I doubt if very many viewers will find your items. eBay has lost it. Seems e-bay is turning to dealer listings only. For years I browsed eBay tractors and eBay machinery daily. Can't really do that now. You'd wear out the "back" button on your computer trying to find what all that might have been listed . I don't think very many viewers will find your listings.

EBay recently changed some things and now best offer is automatically added to buy it now items after they have been listed a certain amount of time.

I am not sure what happened like you posted the first three the wife listed showed up with the offer option the rest did not. I guess we will wait and see what they bring and try to figure out what we did wrong when we list more. Thanks for looking. Tom

No, like any good business, eBay knows who butters their bread.

The vast majority of listings are from dealers, so ebay is tuning their site to suit their main client base. Maybe. If you can tell me how specifically the changes make things easier for dealers and more difficult for private sellers...

Really, they didn't make it impossible for private sellers to sell, they just changed things around a little, added this, took away that, etc. etc..

What it REALLY amounts to is you have to retrain your "auto-pilot" for the new arrangement. You can't just cruise through listing items for a while, at least until you get used to the new layout.

I've been with ebay since they started, and seen lots of changes. Most for the better. Very few for the worse.

By the way eBay only charges 10% commission, which includes listing fees, which is less than most auctioneers take. Would you rather they institute a buyer's premium?

This looks to be the option that got checked.
I grabbed a screenshot while adding an auction today.

I sell more under the make a offer than I did in the auction only style, I just make my buy it now price higher to let someone make an offer that is close to what I wanted for the item to start with. You will get low ballers but just make them a offer of what you really want for your item or decline it.
