Case IH 2294

I am looking at a Case IH 2294 front wheel assist. It has 7200 hours, the only thing I have to go on is the rear end was rebuilt this past summer. The owner hasn't had it long and is being forced to sell some equipment for input needs this spring. I was wondering if anyone has any pointers on what might be potential issues with this particular model. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

As is with most older front assist tractors, if problems exist, chances are it will be with the front assist portion of the tractor. My experiences show it doesn't matter what brand of tractor either. Mechanical front is the way to go.

One of our former contributors, Allan from NB, had a CaseIH, or maybe a transitional year International, big tractor for a while.
It had a catastrophic final drive (Planetary) failure. Pretty much a big bucks issue. He sold it after repair and purchased a big
Massey. I think it would take serious effort to cleanse the final drives of fragments. Putting strong magnets on the outside of
the case in proximity to the drain, or as drain plugs would be my best practice idea if you purchase it. Jim

Allen's IH tractor and the 2294 are totally different animals. The 2294 is a totally Case built tractor, and Allan's 88 series was a 100% IH tractor. The 2294 had a Case Power Shift trans, Case 504 engine, and a Corello front end.
Case did have a factory sponsored rear end up date on the 20- 2290s, but all the updates were incorporated by the time the 2294s came out. The 2294s ran very strong, well over rated HP so the rear end rebuild was in order for the hrs. it had on it.
As far as things to look for, would be any sign of antifreeze in the oil pan, make sure the shifts are crisp and precise, with no hesitation or engine drag between shifts. This tractor has electronic shift control over hydraulics, and there are micro switches, wire connections, and solenoids that can be issues at times. You should take a look at the PTO and be sure it shuts off. As I said, the 22s ran strong and had a 540-1000rpm PTO in them,so the clutches there could have be taxed as well.

was it the rear end or the transmission. The power shift trans are what usually get rebuilt at those hours. Mine (2394) was done 5 years ago and has 11 thousand hours on it now.
