Lost an old cow today

8 yr old jersey Holstein cross. She was due to be
dried off today so I got her up and walked her into
the head lock chute. She walked in no problem. I
cleaned her teats off and started infusing the dry
cow treatment. She then kneeled down than layed
down for no apparent reason so I unfastened her
from the headlock, she kicked a few times than
gone. Guessing a heart attack

I had an old beef cow (15+ Years old) that I think had a heart attack last week as well. She was in good health, eating well, getting around good, etc. Found her Saturday morning in a natural sitting position, gone. No indication of a struggle at all. I actually fed 10 round bales of hay to the herd and never noticed anything with her, until all the other cows had gotten up and come to the hay bales. Prior to that, I thought she was just sleeping in the sun. Oh well, sometimes I'm ok with those good old cows just peacefully slipping off. They deserve a peaceful ending too.

Happens, and that is just how it is. Hope you didn?t have too much trouble removing her from the barn. What are cull cows bring on the market in the east coast area ? The cow market is very poor here in Ontario and has been for months. Makes it a bit easier to take the loss when the cow isn?t wort many $$$ any how.

Brother was working for a near by farmer milking in a parlor when one of the cows dropped dead in the parlor, had the vet come out and he said she had a heart attack. Had a heck of a time getting her out of the parlor he said.

She wasn't in a bad spot just beside a gate close to a door. Culls are down here quite awhile now too,she might have brought 4-500 at best had she been shipped a week ago.

Same here,20 yrs ago in the old tie barn I just put a milker on a few week fresh 2 yr old walked away and she dropped so quick you'd swear someone shot her.

I watched one drop dead in a stanchion one time. She stood right on the end by the milkhouse door. We were down toward the other end milking and I watched her feet slip off in to the gutter. She flailed a few times like she was trying to get her footing then she just laid down. One of the boys was headed that way and I told him to kick her and get her up out of there. Too late. She was dead.

I lost and old herd cow sitting in the barn door. Here favorite place to look at the world. With all the good calves she had raise she didn't owe me a thing.

Cow incidence. Saturday morning we started chores and one cow was missing. My wife went back and found her dead. No signs of struggle or anything. She was fine the day before.
